Hello! I am a sophomore in high school curious about the athletic recruitment process for myself and a friend. I was wondering, with these current stats, if my friend has a good chance of getting recruited by an Ivy League school for track/cross country.
Stats:
3200 meter time - 11 minutes, 22 seconds
5000 meter PR - 18 minutes, 32 seconds
2500 meter PR - 9 minutes, 13 seconds
Academics:
4.0 UW GPA
Multiple AP Classes (scored a 5 on three so far)
97th percentile PSAT score
Academically you are on track, although it’s early. No idea about track times, you should ask on athletic recruit forum. Also ask for yourself not a friend or the admins will shut down the thread.
Most of the ivies have recruiting standards linked on their athletic team pages. You don’t mention it, but those look like girl’s/women’s times. Using Dartmouth, which has some of the slower recruiting standards, shows 11:00 for the 3200m. There are no times for the 2.5k or 5k. Typically track times are given as recruiting standards since XC courses are all different. If it s a well-known course, the coach might have a conversion. So while athletically you/she don’t yet make the mark, it certainly is achievable through the season ahead of you and your junior year. I agree with @dadof4kids
that academically you/she would get a green light in a pre-read.
Your junior year times will be key. Track recruiting doesn’t really start until after spring of junior year. Focus on getting your times down for the 800, 1600, and 3200, and see if you’re in range after junior year.
