Athletics at CWRU

How much time commitment does it require to participate in a varsity sport at Case? I was interested in possibly joining their women’s soccer team, but I was first drawn to Case for pre-med. Is it possible to do both and still succeed at the D3 level?

Don’t kid yourself, it takes a lot of time. However, most athletes find they are very organized and use their time well. They know they have a game on Friday so can’t go out partying on Tuesday and still be ready for a quiz or test on Friday.

Are you in contact with the coach and/or a team member? They would be able to answer your question.

For summary level information, google NCAA 2015 GOALS study, a survey of student athletes from all 3 levels. There are average number of in-season and off hours spent on sport and academics, among other good data. The release of the 2019 GOALS study should be soon, as well.

Also keep in mind that Case is a Division 3 school and is in the University Athletic Association conference consisting of Brandeis University, Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, New York University, The University of Chicago, University of Rochester, and Washington University in St. Louis…

So coaches know you are there for academics, not for sports.

But if you have done sports in HS and succeeded academically, you know how you have to organize your time to do both successfully.
You would take into account the fact that you have practice and not schedule classes/labs then.

I played soccer and basketball (back in the day) and had no issues.
