Hi, I'm a freshman football player at MIT. For those of you who have questions about athletics at MIT, post them here, and i'll be glad to answer them.

This is not football but maybe you know track and cross country
How much time outside of class does it involve
How hard are the practices
How good are the guys who do run.
Will a 4:37 mile cut it? My PR so far junior year.

This is for anyone who might have an idea about the track program.

when do you find time to train?

Sure, I meant I'd answer any question about athelitcs.

First of all, MIT has an activity period, between 5-7 each day, where there can be no classes or class activites. That's generally when practices are. For individual training, it isn't that difficult to make an hour or so every other day. You just need to get in a routine and stick to it. I also use a flexible routine, for example, I'll plan my workouts at the beginning of the week so I can lift either monday or tueday, either wednesday or thursday, etc. That really helps, because weekly workload can really vary.

As for track specifically, I suggest you get in touch with Coach Taylor. He should be, as most MIT coaches are, very frank with you. I have a couple of friends on the track team and I know that, generally speaking, our track program is solid. Shoot him an email, I'm sure he'll respond.

At CPW, is there a time and place to meet certain coaches? Especially, if they are in their off-season?
(specifically, if you know it, for swimming)

Yup- there will be an "Athletics Fair" where all kinds of sports representatives (varsity as well as club teams) will gather in the gym to meet, greet and give information to prospective students. It should be no problem at all to find the swimming coach.

Yeah, don't be shy at the fair either. You might also want to look at sports you are interested in but haven't played. I know a few people that played one sport in HS and then play a different one at MIT. Since MIT is D3 it is possible to take up a new sport and still make a significant impact on that team.

How much do atheletic EC's count in admissions?

Athletics can really help you out. Not as much as with the Ivies by any means, though. Many athletes will deny this, but it is true--I can discuss specific examples with you more over IMs if need be.

Make sure you talk to the coaches of sports you are looking to play. They can write you a recommendation.

And don't listen to KirbusPrime about sports, he can only bench 225 like 35 times, haha just kidding (not about the benching though).

How's Colin Clarke doing? :)

How do we do sports during IAP? I just want to do sports for recreation and fun; it's not like I am particularly good at a single sport.

Lol, don't trust Kevtrice either, he's only has a cool site showing his lifting exploits.

If you want to do sports for fun, MIT is big into intramurals. They go on all year round.

Colin Clarke isn't playing football anymore if that's what you are referring to. He is however, double majoring and pulling pretty much all A's.

He ain't playing football??! Gah! Poor MIT football team :(

And doublemajoring with all As... I aint surprised, ha

EE/CS? or EE/Maths?

Ooh, you guys know Colin. He's from around where I live. Really smart guy.

Cool! You go to school with him or what? :)

No, but I do a lot of math stuff, and he was really good back when he was in high school, so I saw him quite a bit.

OC ftw, eh mate? :D

Colin is doing CS and Math.

Hey,
I am interested in playing soccer for MIT, but don't want to commit to it. Should I/How do i contact the women's soccer coach in order to ask her about playing soccer? I looked on the website and it said her name but did not give an e-mail adress so i was wondering how i could find...
