Atlantic studio information anyone?

My D recently received her placement in the Atlantic Studio. She auditioned for MT but she is excited about this placement. We would like to know some practical information from any current Atlantic studio students or for that matter any former students. First it looks as the though the studio itself is at 76 9th Ave which is a significant distance from the rest of the NYU campus. Seeing she will be spending 3 days a week in the studio how does that work? How do students get there? What is the best dorm to live in? We have visited NYU but really don't know NY at all as we are out in Northern California. Any information would be very helpful.

rev, my D is an Atlantic grad but her classes weren’t on 9th Ave. so perhaps they’ve added more studio facilities. Her classes were on W.16th, if I’m remembering correctly and she was in Weinstein for her freshman year. She and her friends walked to and from studio, most of the time. I think it was about a 25 minute walk and using the subway, with walks on either end, worked out to be about the same amount of time. 76 9th ave is probably close to where she had her classes, still in Chelsea, so would be easily walkable from the Union Square dorms, too. I wouldn’t choose a dorm solely with this criteria, though. She should look at all available freshman dorms and the features of each before deciding. She should also prepare to do a LOT of walking in the city. That’s how most students get around. Congratulations on her getting in to Atlantic. It’s a great accomplishment and a wonderful studio!

My daughter is a 2nd year Atlantic student. Her studio is on 9th somewhere between 15th and 16th St, as I recall. Right across the street is a place with food courts; lots of choices. It’s too far to get back to the dorm for lunch, so she generally gets something there.

As far as freshman dorms, probably Rubin and Hayden are the most convenient. I think they are the furthest west of all the dorms. Hayden has the advantage of a street that angles right up to the area that Atlantic is in. If they keep 13th St dorm, that might be a good choice as an upperclassman. But this is all a matter of a few blocks, so it’s not a big deal. Just get used to walking alot.

What part of California are you from?I’m from Northern Cali also and am in Atlantic.
