Attach Resume to Common App?

Hope the College fared well under the invasion by Irene and that there was no major flooding and all power stayed on or has been restored. I vividly remember being on campus for Gloria in '85 - turns out we were very lucky and hope the same was true this time.

Son has started his common app. We have always assumed that the extra information information section was to be used for things not already elsewhere on the application. Since most activities, honors, jobs, internships, clubs, etc.. can be included on the main application, it seemed unnecesary to add a full resume as well. However, we have read a number of posts on college confidential where it seems that many students add a resume and view it as a "must." Is this true? Do you suggest and expect that students attach a resume to the common application? Thanks!

Adding a resume is only necessary if the student feels a) their activities/honors/internships cannot fit into the EC section of the Common App or b) some part of their activities/honors/internships warrents further explanation. For W&M, a resume is absolutely not a must. As long as the student highlights his/her major commitments and leadership positions in the Common App that will be all the information we need.
