Attaching a Resume... Length Question!

I am definitely attaching a resume to my common app... but I wonder if it is too long. I could easily fill up several pages, but I am not sure how much/if anything I should cut from resume and what length I should cap it at? Thanks!

Just put down the really, truly important stuff. Don’t list every single award you’ve won. Maybe the top 10 things is good.

Just try to keep it to one page. Sort very carefully, be selective in terms of including the most important things… Single space, slightly smaller type… Just find a way to fit it on one page.

I disagree with the other posters. Remove any silly items, like your 7th grade math award for example, but keep everythign else, regardless of th elength.
I also would say don’t make it the same format as a job resume, make it a 4 column spreadsheet with 1. name of thing 2. description (very short) 3. awards/positions 4. how long you’ve done it.

this makes it easy to read, since the last thing they want is to figure out how your resume is supposed to be read. and let’s them see your other accomplishments if they want to.

it is good that you’re sending in a resume, because not everybody does that. i went to a resume writing workshop a few months ago, and i’d be happy to share a few tips (though they may be a bit obvious)

-try to keep it to one page, i would say two max. there’s no guarantee that they will read it word for word, so just keep the important things.
-only put things you’ve accomplished during your high school years.
-at the top, put the usual information:name, schools, address, etc.
-play with margins if you need to, but DO NOT make the font small. 12 is probably the best, and 10 is pushing it. you don’t want to make it too small, the people reading it are most likely a little bit older!
-make sure to put in hours or the duration of time that you spent on an activity, but make it consistent throughout.
-put the things you are most proud of at the top; again, you want to captivate their attention.

hopefully i was of some help to you!
