Some of the essays I am writing for applications include references to obscure aspects of my life, including my old station wagon and the time I spent on the school's hockey team. Is it worth attaching a picture to these essays as a way of furthering my explanation, or will admissions officers only find them annoying/excessive?

I suppose this is a question for applying in general. Is it a good decision to include photos of the applicant?

Any input would be great. Good luck to everyone!

I would say no to photos of the applicant, but maybe to photos of things the applicant has worked on. Like for the station wagon essay, a picture might be cool, but for a hockey team essay they really don't need a picture of you or your team.

I'd say the only time you should be attaching a photo is if it's a school that gives you the option to attach an applicant photo (eg. Columbia, Vassar, etc.) or if you're doing some kind of photography art supplement. If it's just the case of talking about a station wagon and whatnot, descriptions in the essay should cover it. If they don't, it's a sign you need to edit your essay more.
