That’s pretty nasty stuff. I’ve never had anything that bad. With Windows, I’d consider reformatting and reinstalling if I had something that bad. Reformatting and reinstalling does clear up a lot of accumulated junk too.

Mozilla reports bad stuff in College Search and Selection this morning, but Admissions and Financial Aid were OK.

AVG stopped a virus the first time I opened College Search and Selection, but since then I just get the don’t-go-there message, so I haven’t.

Wolverine - happened to us also. H had to reboot in safe mode and then restore to previous point several days ago and it finally worked.

I think it’s the colleges, trying to thwart the CC discussion of the inflated pricing structure of a college education and any parent/student strategizing on making said education more affordable. It’s a vast academic conspiracy to keep their gravy train rolling!! :)

scmom…Glad to hear Safe Mode in and of itself worked for you guys. When I ran the Fake Anti-virus tool Trend Micro sent me it found and removed several suspicious files, but I have no idea if they were the actual offending files or not. If you haven’t already, you probably want to run a full scan of your system as well in case the malware is still hiding somewhere in the registry. So far so good…no incidents since I ran it yesterday at dinnertime. Fingers crossed.

Are you guys with infections running Windows XP, 7 or 8?

Windows 7 in our case.

I’m getting the malware warning again today.

There is another thread in the cafe.
& as I mentioned there, I am pretty sure I have java turned off. ( not javascript)
Is that not an option with Windows?

[How to turn off Java on your browser ? and why you should do it now | Naked Security](How to turn off Java in your browser – and why you should do it now – Naked Security)

I got the FBI warning thing today. I did a ctrl-alt-del to reboot, had some programs (unrelated) preventing shutdown, ultimately was able to open task manager and shut down firefox. Haven’t had the problem since, though now cc is being blocked again as unsafe. I’m doing this by phone.

Also got the FBI screen. I was at work (before the work day started, though!). IT had to re image the machine. Nasty stuff indeed.

Wow! I hope the FBI goes after these guys.

The malware problem still there. Cannot login from my PC using chrome.

You need to turn off JAVASCRIPT. That is an option in your browser settings. If you don’t know how, then go run a search on Google for “how to disable javascript” along with the name of your browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)

The FBI warning thing is the “FBI Moneypak Ransomware Virus”.
Here is the text from the Google Safe Browsing report for talk.collegeconfidential.com today:

I am posting this in the hopes that the site administrators will see this and take action.

Having problems both with Google and Safari. As a precaution I’ve only tried accessing CC via our ‘floater’ laptop…really does nothing but surf the web.

But…maybe it’s best to just say no for a few days until this gets fixed. After all, CC is not critical to life…really…really…really

I have removed this site from my favorites bar on my pc so I do not forget and access it from there. After dealing with a particularly nasty bit of malware on my desktop two weeks ago which I suspect originated from this site, I will only access it from my iPad from now on.

I hope CC does a little better in fixing this situation. What if more people “just say no” to visiting this site? That wouldn’t bode well for the site.

I am having zero problems with CC.
