So I checked mygrade on blackboard and noticed I had 6/5 for absences. One of these absences however, was due to the fact that I had a doctors appointment to do a sleep study, and sleep studys are ONLY done during the week. Since i have this class everyday at 9 am, there is no way I could avoid not missing it. Therefore, I thought my professor would have excused this absence but apparently she has not??

What can I do? I dont want my grade dropping from A to A- because of something I could not have avoided...

5 absences seems pretty generous already. Unless all 6 absences were unavoidable, I don’t think you have much of a case, sorry.

You mean you are allowed 5 absences but took six? In that case you’re pretty much out of luck, the professor will say “look, you have five allowed absences and therefore could have arranged your sleep study ahead of time so as not to go over.”

Something similar happened to me, and my excuse was even more official than yours!

Yeah, I don’t think you’ve got much of a case there. Allowing 5 absences without consequence is already quite generous.

I don’t know what your circumstances were, or whether or not you had good reasons to miss that many classes through the semester, but 5 is a lot. I’ve noticed that some people make a point of using all of their “free passes.” I don’t understand that mindset. I’ve never missed a single class in my entire college career thus far. Although I was tempted to this semester with my english class…lol

Regardless, those “free passes” are given to you so that you can avoid consequences as a result of absence. They are not the “recommended amount of absences.”
