Um I don't keep track of my attendance. All I know is that it's been far from perfect since junior year. =P

Geez...seems like most schools are leanient as far as absences. At my school, if you miss more than 9 days in a semester, or more than 18 days a year, you fail and get held back.

missed 3 days from K-10

Do colleges really look at latenesses?

^I doubt it. Absenses show up on transcripts, but it's the grades they are looking at.

Our school doesn't show absences on transcript so I suppose it's from school to school.
Where absences could really leave damage is the recommendations; crap.

I Have perfect attendance Kindergarten through now (11th grade). I only missed one period in 7th grade (We had to run 200 meter race; I was sick that day and I threw up, but I got 1st place though) After leaving for that period I came back to finish the last 2 periods. :) I need perfect attendance in high school.

I think I've might've had a couple of absences in first grade, when I'd just come to the U.S. I remember one time when my dad called me in sick, but my grandfather made me go to school anyway, and everyone was shocked to see me. Ha. And then I was forced to miss a day in freshman year due to a band trip to Washington D.C.

But other than those few incidences, I don't think I've ever been absent in my life. I'm one of those people who still goes to school even if I'm sick, usually with a cold.

I mean, I hate having to spread germs around, but my parents would never let me stay home for a cold. Plus, I hate doing makeup work. The only time they'd ever allow me to stay home is if I get a fever. But luckily, if I have fevers, I usually get them during vacations.

I almost got kicked out of school for attendance reasons twice. (Both the junior high and senior high school are pretty anal about it).

First time, in junior high, I missed a little bit of school when training at the Olympic Training Center and then about a week for national team tryouts near the end of the year. I had close to a 4.0 anyway in all honors classes, but still had to go get signatures from each teacher saying that it was okay. Wasn't too big of a problem because my grades were still pretty high and I did all the make-up work by the time I got back, but the administration still gave me a hard time about it.

Then, missed the last week or so of sophomore year to attend NASA SHARP. My wonderful guidance counselor told me if I attended this "summer camp" (NASA SHARP != Summer Camp), she'd record all of my grades as F's and make me come back for summer school. I got signatures from all my teachers again and wrote a letter explaining about the program. Then, had to go above the counselor to the principal and stuff, to make sure the guidance counselor didn't fail me. She still hates me. haha. (I had already taken finals in all my classes anyway, because the seniors get out a couple weeks before the underclassmen... so it's not like I was missing too much ;))

Junior and Senior Year have actually been a lot better for me, attendance-wise, because of dual-enrollment. I have more flexibility with scheduling classes and attendance isn't even taken. I think last year, I missed maybe 1 or 2 days at most, of class.

Yes, I LOVE dual enrollment. :)

My school's policy is you can't miss more than 12 days of a year-long class (6 for semester-long ones), and an unexcused tardy counts as 1/3 of an absence. I had 10.33 absences in a class last year because of this, and they sent a letter to my parents (which I conveniently found before they did and never showed them). I heard they don't care if you go over the limit, though. They're afraid of making someone stay back or go to summer school because the kid's parents would probably sue the school or something.

Yea, I don't really keep track of my attendence.

When absences are due to health reasons & the kid is able to keep up, I can't see why there SHOULD be a big deal but I do understand that it can be a major problem. At our public school system, you can't graduate if you have >=12 absences in your senior year. My S had many, many more than that every year from 7th grade thru 12th. His private HS didn't care because we kept the school informed & he kept up with all the work & did extremely well anyway. He became a NMF & is now in college & doing great (no absences so far in his > 2 months of college).
His counselor touched on his overcoming health challenges & learning independently in his rec & S mentioned it in passing in his app as well. It doesn't appear to have hurt him as he got into several schools he wanted to attend with substantial merit aid.

i miss 1-2 days each marking period

dude you are in the 8th grade and you are on this site
enjoy your life dude i dont know why you would be into college this early lol
and to have 2000 posts since october 2k5

senior year: 50-60 absences
junior year: 30-40 absences
soph: 20-25 absences
frosh: 20-25 absences

as long as i get good grades and fairly involved in the school community, my school and my parents don't really care. the type of system we have though - different from the traditional sense (no schedules) - allows for these high amount of absents to happen.

HAHAA I miss a lot of school.
I'd say about 10+ a semester. Oops!
