Attending Scholarship Reception

Hello,

I just wanted some advice from the parents on this forum. I won an award from a local organization and basically each winner can choose whichever meeting they wish to attend to receive their award. I am attending mine next week-- is there anything that I should bring, such as a thank you letter of some sort? I just wanted to know what your advice would be, aside from dressing nicely. Thanks. :)

You may be given a chance to say a few words of thank you to your sponsors. It would be nice to have prepared a paragraph, using names of the important people.

You should also send a nice thank you note by mail to the committee.

As a former member of several scholarship committees, my advice is to also say "thank-you" when meeting anyone in the organization who is at the meeting.

I can remember attending such events after being on a scholarship committee and having been surprised at how winners of scholarships were happy to lap up congratulatory comments when meeting members, but were very slow to say, "thank you."

Make sure to express appreciation not just when you get the opportunity to make some formal remarks, but also when you're chatting with members and meeting them.

Just a suggestion....regardless of what you do at this reception, you still should write a Thank You note to the organization that gave you this scholarship.

Yes, I'm aware of the thank you letter. It's the actual reception that I was worried if I should bring the letter, or if I should wait until after and send it through the mail.

Thank you all for the suggestions!

Send it afterwards, but asap.
At the reception, remember to say thank you, especially when committee members congratulate you. If asked to make remarks, keep them brief! Enjoy yourself at the reception.
