attire for interview with USMA Liasion Officer

Is there any appropriate attire for this interview or are casual school clothes acceptable? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think the interview is when you are putting your best foot forward. Some ALO's will say it is just fine to dress casually - I don't think that means blue jeans and a tee shirt, though. More likely, it means khakis and a shirt or polo shirt. If they don't say so, I think you should assume that they expect you to dress for an interview. They aren't expecting Brooks Brothers, but you should look like you care.

For boys that means a suit, sports coat with dress pants, or dress pants with a nice sweater. Include a tie with any of these. For girls, skirt with conservative blouse (no chamisoles or tanks) dress, suit (pants or skirt). Nice shoes and dress socks/hose for both.

This would be expected for your nomination interviews also.

I concur with momoftwins about proper attire being more formal than casual.

Our son's ALO interview was in our home and he thought it was wierd to put on a coat/tie for the interview. At first he objected to our suggestion and said West Point should be interested in him, not his clothes, and that casual clothes were fine in his opinion.

I asked him if his interest in going to USMA was casual or serious, and what choice in attire would better convey the level of his interest. With that " I hate when you're right look in his eye", he admitted the coat & tie was the better choice.

Maybe I am just reinforcing my opinion, but I am convinced that our son took his interview more seriously wearing a coat and tie.

By the way, our son's at USMA proudly wearing his "formal" uniform.

Yeah, aspen. I got that same look when I dared suggest she wear a dress or skirt, but she did it. I think getting dressed up for an interview is really just wearing the first of many uniforms. It really is expected.

I work in a company where we dress "business casual". When omebody is coming in to interview for a job, they dress "business professional" because they know that they should. It is the same thing here.
