My daughter is accepted. School of Communications with an annual scholarship of $10,000.
Confused - the Frederick Douglas Scholarship is full tuition, room, board, fees. Awesome if you won that - but that’s not $25K.

DD accepted and also offered an optional spot in the Cornerstone Program. It’s a freshman internship in DC or a freshman spring study abroad program. Anyone familiar with this?
Yes. It is offered for students who are not admitted for fall, but are admitted for spring. Instead of attending class full-time, students do an internship part-time and class part-time during fall.
It seems she is a Fall 2021 admit and this was an optional offering. It said “you may be interested in…”
No it is a spring admission program. But instead of outright saying spring admission, it’s a transition program to where the student would start classes in fall, but not as a full time student. AU Cornerstone Program | American University, Washington, DC
My daughter was offered the Cornerstone Program and a Presidential Scholarship (20K). I wouldn’t think she would be declined for Fall. 1500 SAT and 4.0 uw. You sure?
Yes same here…and definitely Fall 2021 admission.
They may have changed the program from previous years, but it’s normally been for spring admission. It used to be called the mentorship program, not cornerstone, and they recently renamed so maybe they changed the admissions.
Idk- it says this; I copy and pasted: " you have been selected as a recipient of a Frederick Douglass Scholarship in the amount of $25,000 annually"
The Frederick Douglass Scholarship is what you got. The other posters are referring to the Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars program, which is a full ride.
OK - they must have two programs. The FDDS you had to apply for.
Like they have the Dean and Presidential, they must have a regular scholarship called the FD.
Congrats to you.

Same for my daughter too. Unsure about this - seems too early to start an internship, rather than starting off college as a full-time student and getting her credits and pre-req courses cleared off.
Any comments/opinions on this program?
yeah, i did apply to that. didn’t get it but that’s ok. thanks!
The program is optional, but students do it every year. It’s normal for those in the program to have internships (only in first semester though), because they aren’t in classes full time. Since it would appear that they’ve changed it from spring admission to just an optional program I would say that you should just do normal enrollment rather than the program, as there are many other opportunities for internships later on.
