AU ED Application Decisions for the Class of 2022

@silvieday Most AR’s do not contact their students. Our rep was a midwest rep and there was no phone call or email regarding admissions. The admissions office notifies by letter only and unfortunately, with President’s Day being a federal holiday, mail is going to take a bit longer. Have you tried making a portal with your AU ID on the student portal page? This is different from the prospective student portal.

Honestly being notified by snail mail was one of the most frustrating things about the AU admissions process. I now ask about how the school notifies applicants of acceptances in the college search for DD.

I got in today – plus I got into the AU Scholars program. :smiley: (does that program give out any scholarships like the au honors program does???)

Yay!! Got in with Early Decision 2 :slight_smile: AU’s been my first choice so really happy. But didn’t get enough scholarships, and AU doesn’t offer need based financial aid for international (I’m coming from India). I was really counting on scholarships to pay for the 4 years. I know I have agreed to enroll, but my family definitely doesn’t have money for all 4 years AU - just the first year. Any suggestions? Do I need to explicitly ask to be released from early decision agreement? Should I just not submit the deposit by March 1st? I feel like I’m stuck - AU keeps saying that I MUST attend, but I clearly don’t have the money.

@silvieday Congrats! Any scholarship would have been listed in your acceptance letter. You can find your financial aid package online through your student portal.

@pooraued2student ED decisions are not binding IF you do not have the financial means to pay after the award/aid have been given. So since you did not get the Financial Aid/Scholarships you needed to attend, you need to let your AR know that you will not be attending due to financial reasons. There are a number of AU ED students who do not attend for financial reasons every year. There is no legal remedy that AU can pursue to make you attend or submit the deposit. If they determined that you were in bad faith breaking your ED agreement (like if your parents were multi-millionaires and clearly could afford to send you to AU) the worst that they could do would be to tell other private schools that you broke your ED agreement. Then those schools might not accept you - this would be very unlikely to happen. For US students AU might hold that against the High Schoo/GC that submitted the ED and be less likely to accept ED from that school in the future. BUT this is ONLY if you truly could afford to go and were just choosing another school over AU.

Got acceptance packet today in California!! Could’t be more excited, however the financial aid was very low (especially since my efc is 0), so I emailed to ask if there is any possibility of an appeal. Congratulations to AU2022! Would anyone else from 2022 want to add me to the groupme? Thanks!

You should email them and appeal. I got accepted into ED1 and at first they gave me no financial aid award (my efc is also 0). So I emailed and it turns out I didn’t submit my non custodial parent waiver and I didn’t even know it existed and I turned it in and they gave me full cost of attendance in grants so email them right way to get it figured out man. Go west coast, I felt like I was the only one

@collegehrh

@supremedude thank you, I just emailed them a formal appeal, they said there were some discrepencies in Fafsa and CSS so I tried to clear it up. I’m so happy to hear that someone else had the same situation and is from the same area, I was so worried because I want to go so bad but I simply couldn’t afford it. Crossing my fingers that they can help me out

Oops ignore this

So, I decided American wasn’t for me due to my inability to afford it. I have instead chosen to attend Trinity University in San Antonio. It is all around the smarter choice for me. I wish you all luck.

@Daydreamer2018 Trinity is a fabulous school. I wish you the best!

Wow - small world! My son is a freshman at Trinity and it’s fabulous. I was on here looking for application experience for American, since my daughter (2024) is interested in it. You won’t go wrong at Trinity - it’s a fabulous school. Welcome, Tiger.

@“Michigan87#” My DD (2023) is waiting on her EA1 decision from Trinity and my DS (2022) is a Freshman at American! It is a small world! If you have any question about our AU application expereince or DS’s first year expereince, I would be happy to help. You can PM me if you prefer.

@sahmkc thank you! Our DD2024 is still just a HS junior but thinking ahead. We will not be able to afford for her to apply to AU ED - we cannot commit without some sort of $$ gift falling from the sky!
