Auburn University or Ohio State Chances?

Hi, I'm getting ready to apply to college and Auburn University and Ohio State University are my top two choices for college (It's a tie breaker I can't decide which one I like better), so I want to know my chances of getting in.

GPA: 3.52 (weighted)
SAT: 1620 (1090 CR & M)
Classes: All IB Classes and all honors classes since 9th Grade
EC'S: National Honors Society (2 years)
Marching Band (1 yr)
Pep Band (1yr)
Scholastic Bowl (2 years this year)
Key Club (3 years and this year I am Vice President)
Junior Class Secretary
Senior Class Secretary
Playing Flute (6 years)
Some guitar lessons (11th grade)

Volunteer work: Upward Assistant Cheer Coach (11th Grade)
Hospital Volunteer (9th grade)
Nursery Duty at church (7 years total)

I will probably add more Volunteer work as the year progresses because I plan on volunteering at a food bank every weekend starting September and doing other volunteer work. No job yet, but I just put in a ton of applications so I can get an after school job. So what do you think my chances of getting in at those two schools are?

Ohio State: Reach
Auburn: Match/High match

I think you could do well at Auburn. Try to take the ACT because most people at Auburn take that instead and some people find it easier than the SAT. And have you visited Auburn’s campus? I was a freshman there last year and it’s absolutely beautiful! I’d highly suggest checking it out.

I completely forgot to mention that I’m taking the ACT on September 26, I’m hoping to get between a 24-29 since that is their average and I’m about 10 points below average on the SAT for Auburn.

@avita01, yes I visited the campus last year! I LOVED IT!!! My Aunt Jo and Uncle Joe donate to the engineering department at Auburn so when I expressed an interest in the school they offered to take me down there (I live in VA) , show me the campus, take me to a football game. I got to attend the UGA vs. AU game which was AMAZING! Even though Auburn got beat (quite badly) the energy at the campus was astounding! I really loved how friendly everyone was. Everyone I passed said “War Eagle!” to me and some students even came up and talked to me about the school when they saw me getting my picture taken and realized I was touring.

My mom’s a Buckeye fan so she said I can’t compare the two until I check out OSU this fall. My dad hates Auburn though 'cause he’s a UGA fan :P

Haha, I must admit that I come with a bit of bias because I just transferred from Auburn to the University of Michigan, so I won’t say anything about OSU, but as a former Auburn student, I highly recommend it there. I was a little turned off by the conservative nature of the school, but as with any university, you’ll find people who you get along with. The personal relationships you make there, not only with students, but with teachers, make a big university seem small. A lot of the professors are really approachable and they love their subjects and teach them well. From an academics standpoint, Auburn will help you succeed. They have free one on one tutoring by appointment in the library for any subject and going to office hours (even once to ensure the professor knows you) guarantees you a higher grade for participation and makes professors more likely to be lenient if you’re on the borderline. If you’re looking into grad school for later in life, this is where you want to be. I’ve never been anywhere where I was so able to succeed. Academically, they help you get As and, as for extra cirriculars, by putting in a little effort, you get SO many unique opportunities that look great on a resume. Through the ePortfolio project (look it up if you go there, it’s great!), I ended up being one of only 2 undergrads able to go to a regional conference for professors… As a freshman. Not to mention that football should improve this year, so that should be even more fun! One thing Auburn certainly has on any Northern school (my own included) is some beautiful and livable weather! War Eagle!

And if you do end up going to school at OSU instead, I look forward to being your friendly rival ;)

I agree that OSU will be a reach for you. Try to get your test scores up and that will help immensely.
