audition dress

I am auditioning for UMich next weekend and Tisch the weekend after. I was a little confused about what I should wear for the acting/singing part of the audition. I am a guy. I have heard from some people that it's best to dress semi-formally (nice button-down and slacks, for example), but in the information Tisch sent me it says to dress "casual and neutral." What does this mean.

Has anyone had experience auditioning at these places? What do most people wear? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

milkywhite,

We went on campus to both CCM and UMich. My S wore slacks and a dress shirt, but no tie, to both auditions. Although 1 kid wore a tux to CCM, I think that the majority of the guys wore slacks and a dress shirt (at both schools). Some wore ties, but many did not.

For both auditions, we ironed his clothes the night before and brought them on a hanger for him to change into after his dance call. You might also want to bring your toiletries to freshen up after the dance call if you won't have a chance to go back to the hotel in between.

Neutral means don't let your clothing be a distraction. Wear neat clothing that isn't more interesting than your performance. Khaki pants or corduroys. I also saw a lot of buttondown shirts and sweaters. Nothing fancy, nothing slovenly!

thanks a lot!

There was also an audition outfits thread that I'll bump.
