Hi,
Just found time to write a report about D and my visit to Coastal on Saturday. We were checked in by AlexaMT, so it was nice to put a face with the screen name! She was very sweet and helpful. We were directed into a theater where kjgc was seated center stage and was greeting everyone as they entered. Several other faculty members were there as well. They gave an overview of how the day would go, then we were off. The kids were divided into 3 groups. D’s group started with a student meeting in which the current theater students shared their experience at CCU, then answered questions. This was very informative and much appreciated. All of them seemed very happy and pleased to be at CCU.*

Next, D had her audition. Since she was auditioning for MT, she did 2 songs and 1 monologue. Prior to being called in, they were taken to a room to warm up. Most of the faculty that had been onstage earlier were in the room watching the auditions except for kjgc, who was in the room next door interviewing each one of them after they finished their songs and monologues.

After auditions, we got to tour the campus. The student that led us on the tour happened to be from our area of SC, so that was kind of nice to get the perspective of a kid from our city (he wasn’t a theater major). The campus was beautiful! D was aleady really loving CCU just from the interaction with the current students and the faculty, the look and feel of the campus just added to her “Coastal love!”*

After the tour, the university provided a nice lunch in the pretty courtyard. The faculty was there as well, making themselves readily availabe to chat and answer questions. The weather was perfect for this event and made it that much more enjoyable.*

After lunch, the kids had 3 workshops (acting, singing, and dance). This was D’s favorite part of the day! When I returned to campus at the end of the day, she could not wipe the big smile off her face! She said she learned so much in that short amount of time and “if this is anything like college classes will be, I am going to love it!” Believe me, as a parent there is nothing better than seeing that much joy and enthusiasm in your child.*

The day concluded with a brief wrap-up and final Q and A session. By this time, I think everyone, the kids, faculty, and the parents, was exhausted! It had been a long, but very rewarding day.*

D and I both left with much love for the university and the program. We were very impressed with the amazing group of teachers and their experience in the field.*

All that’s left now is the waiting…ahhhhh…the tough part!*

Oh, AlexaMT, D hopes to hear your Alice Ripley impression someday!

Best wishes to all!
