Audition fees, application fees, prescreen fees

I know I’m a little late to this thread, but @Notmath1 I always thought the prescreen fee was so that they could pay the person/people who have to take the time to view the prescreens.
@sopranomtmom I can concur. I have raised a competitive figure skater and am about to embark on the MT process with D19.

I started a spreadsheet last summer to help my daughter start deciding what schools to apply to. I just looked and at that point NYU was charging $65 for their common app fee. I just went and looked to verify if that was still true, it is now up to $80. Guess I need to go back and update all the schools on my spreadsheet.

FYI NYU also charges a $95 artistic review fee and a $5 slide room fee, bringing them close to $200 like @artskids said. @Fergie978 I’m thinking your $100 didn’t include the common app fee?

Hmmm. This was a while ago. If I remember correctly, that $100 is just the audition fee. Common App fee is separate.

If you visit schools or show interest by email before it’s time and get on their mailing list, sometimes they send a “apply now and we will waive the fee” email. Three schools did that our year. I also have a friend who asked about waiving fees and many schools said yes. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

I intentionally never added it all up - I didn’t really want to know! LOL - We had 17 schools, app fees, pre-screen fees, audition fees, travel costs - 2 plane tickets, one very long car trip, many, many hotel rooms, meals, emergency purchases for important items left at home, (thank goodness for that TJ Maxx outside of Ann Arbor for having black tights) etc.- but my ballpark was in the $4-5k range. My non-MT son just went through the college application process for Sound Recording and applied ED to Syracuse and was accepted - one and done! What a difference! I think the MT process has gotten even worse than it was 3 years ago. I applaud all of you for supporting your kids through it.
