Hello! I’m preparing for my college auditions at NYC Unifieds 2017, and I’m looking for a comedic monologue I was looking in the play that I pulled my first piece from and found another really good one that’s for the same character. Is this a huge no-no? Please help!
I think you should really try to find something that shows another side of you, certainly a different play, different author, different style.
@catladylark – I agree with @Jkellynh17. If you are being asked to present two monologues in the same audition, or asked for additional pieces once you have shared your chosen pieces, the schools are asking to see some kind of contrast. So, you should probably not present or offer more than one monologue from the same play and character in the audition room.
That being said, if you are drawn to the character, have plenty of monologues that do contrast, and want to work on two monologues from the same character in the same play that would be okay. It could even be helpful because you would spend more time with the play and have a better understanding of the character. You may also find that you end up liking one more than the other, or want to keep things fresh by presenting different monologues in different auditions.
