Audition

I am auditioning early next year for their MT program and was wondering how intensive the dance component of the audition is. You see, I am a very strong actress and singer but my dancing lacks slightly. I have been trying hard to advance myself more but I’m worried with the fact that I’m not going to be as advanced as say someone who has been studying dance for several years. Anyways, If anyone could give any info at all about the audition I’d greatly appreciate it. UCF is my top choice school and I would love to attend there :)

Just wanted to "bump" this.

If anyone has had any experiences with the UCF MT audtion/program, I would really love to hear about it!

Hi!

I auditioned at UCF two weeks ago. I had a really nice time there. I am not the greatest dancer either, heehee, but the dance audition was fine. First you are given a warm up, and then you learn an easy ballet combo. Then you learn a jazz combo which is gone over many, many times. You are put into a group of 3 or 4 people, and you perform the ballet and jazz combos. And also, the dance teacher is great! He's really funny and he makes sure that everyone has the combos. You are allowed to bring your tap shoes and do a little tap if you want to. But overall I think you'll be fine as long as you have a good time with it.
There is also a music theory test, which isn't too difficult. You dance first, then you get an individual audition appointment. Everyone in the audition room is really, really friendly and they smiled throughout my whole audition, and a lot of the other auditioners said the same thing. The students said really great things about the program and were all very helpful and supportive. They asked me what interested me about UCF - just something you might want to think about beforehand - that's a question that I have a tough time answering, no matter what school asks it. I think they said they accept around 16 freshmen, though I think it varies every year. I seems like a pretty good program - the only thing that concerns me is that they don't study classical music, and that's something that's important to me, but some of the freshmen told me that you can opt to do a music minor, which is really great. When are you auditioning? I hope you enjoy it, and best of luck!!

Just out of curiosity, where do you live? I live in Sarasota, FL. UCF seems to be everyone's "backup" school here, but besides that, I've heard good things about it. The campus is very big and nice, and there is apparently a lot to do off campus.

Also, where else are you auditioning?

I hope I have been some help. If you have any more questions, I would love to try to answer them!

Amber

Has anyone auditioned for UCF this year? There is very little information given other than the time it begins and the location. I know the requirements but my D would love to know a little more about what to expect. (Atleast it will be warmer than Unifieds in NYC!)

My friend auditioned there on the 23rd, she said it started with I'm pretty sure a short info session and then you went to the dance call. She is a dancer and she told me it was very hard even for her. Then afterward you go and do your song and monologue. The following Monday you will receive an email probably from Earl Weaver stating if you are a 'finalist'. She said they take a number from each audition as 'finalists' and then narrow the finalist group down after all the auditions to make their class. I'm auditioning on the 14th!

Thanks for the information. I also found out from a former student that they let you know something very quickly. My D and I will be there on the 14th as well. It is nice to finally go somewhere that is only a drive and not a flight...plus the weather should be nice and warm!
See you on the 14th!

Were you and your daughter at CMU and Unifieds? I feel like I met you there? I talked on facebook to a girl that I met there and she is also going to UCF for that some audition.
