Auditioned on Saturday

Okay, so hello there veryone. I just wanted to share my experiences with you auditioning for Pace’s Musical Theatre program on Saturday 2/2.

So, I had never taken the subway before, so I got lost and wound up in Brooklyn, so I was late to the audition. Luckily, the people were very nice and understanding about it, and I auditioned almost as soon as I got to the theatre. That was nice.

Now, I don’t really know how I did. I mean, I think I sang the songs fine and all, but I don’t know. They had me sing my uptempo song again, which was We Beseech Thee from Godspell. Amy discussed the song with me, and discussed what I was supposed to be feeling, and asked me to do it again with all of those things in mind. Afterwards, she thanked me for doing that for her.

Now, I don’t know if that means that she thought that I acted the song very badly when I first sang it, so I am really nervous about that. That has been on my mind a lot, that I might have screwed that up.

My ballad was fine, and my monologue was so-so. It’s a weird, short monologue that is comedic, but it doesn’t show a whole lot of acting. I did it because I love the play, and I wanted to try to at least make their audition experience a little more enjoyable, while sharing a show that I love. Hopefully, they liked it.

Like others, no musical theory test. I didn’t really get an interview, they just asked me where I was from and how I was feeling and all that. So, bad sign again?

I must say though, the woman playing piano was amazing, and everyone there was so nice. The audition room was very very relaxed, and I wasn’t really nervous. The judges were super comforting and nice, so that is a plus.

I love the school, and I really really hope that I get into the dept., though I don’t really see that happening. Am I right in assuming that I can audition again next year if I choose to go to the school anyway?

Oh, and we saw a song from Tick…Tick…BOOM performed, and I love the song. They sang it very well, expecially after only one rehearsal! Is this performance open to the public? I’d love to come and see it!

Alrighty, thanks for listening.

Not having an interview is not a bad sign - sometimes they see something on a form you filled out that they want to ask about which sparks conversation, sometimes it just is what it is, ya know? I wouldnt take any of those things as a bad sign, its the performance that really matters :)

And yes Tick, Tick... Boom! is open to anyone and everyone; performances are Feb 21-23 at 8:00pm and I do encourage anyone interested in Pace to see it, as it is the only musical that will run during the audition period (Wild Party wont go up until the end of April)

Thanks Hilary. So I shouldn't be nervous that hey had me sing the song again? I am going to try to see Tick Tick Boom. I love the show, and would love to see it at the school that I am (hopefully) going to go to.

Javert, it actually sounds like it went really well since they worked with you on your song. Amy was likely curious to see how well you would be able to incorporate her comments and how responsive you would be.

No need to worry about the musical theory test (see other threads), Pace does placement the first day of class0, and remember, the interview is usually more for the judges to get a feel for your personality. It is very possible that they did get that when Amy worked with you on your uptempo song.

Now, it is important to remember how competitive this process is though, and to not really get tangled up into falling in love with one school only, which I realize is hard to do. Pace is indeed a fine program, but you probably have some other auditions lined up as well. So also focus on those and then let the "cards fall where they may be". Good luck! :)

haha, I also wound up in Brooklyn when I was going to my Pace audition. (: The NYC subway system is so confusing...

Thank you all for the help!
