Auditions and getting in?

Hi,
so I’m now a senior in high school and I’m gonna start auditioning soon…pace right now is really the only school I’m 100% sure I’ll apply to (which is bad, I know). a lot of people I know who have applied or have heard other things tell me that the chances of getting into Pace’s musical theatre program are slim to none if you’ve never had real experiences. i.e., they only take people who have been in broadway or off-broadway shows. Is this true?
I’ve been in all of my high school’s musical productions, and I’ve done a few musicals outside of school with a local youth theatre company, but I’ve never done like an actual show o broadway or off-broadway. Will that minimize my chances of getting in?

Another question I have is about the audition. I’m really not a good dancer. I took jazz lessons when I was little but because I moved a lot, I didn’t really get a chance to dance much. When I finally got to where I live now, school was so stressful that I just didn’t have the time. I’m not trying to make excuses for myself because it’s on me that I’m not a great dancer and I’m not doing much to try to change that, but this is how it is. I’m wondering how the dance audition is, how much it counts towards your overall audition (especially if you’re a bad dancer like me), if they would like completely not even consider you if you’re a bad dancer, and also how the actual audition is - like, what do you do? are you in a room full of people and they teach you a dance routine and you have to do it?

I read that the singing part of the audition is done on the stage with all the other people auditioning right there in the wings. How is that? I’m terrified just thinking about it! I don’t want all the other people auditioning to hear how terrible I am. (I mean obviously if I thought I were terrible I wouldn’t be auditioning but you know what I mean. there’s more pressure i there are more people watching, especially if they’re competition.)

is the acting part of the audition done the same way as the singing? ah I’m so nervous. any info would be helpful. thanks in advance for any information you can give me!!

Pace changed their process last year and pre screened. After some feedback I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t tweaked their auditions. It can vary year to year.

My best advice is to widen your net. As much as pace may be your first choice add others to your list as well.
