I’m a sophomore in high school and right now Pace University is my dream school to major in musical theater at. However I know that it’s extremely competitive and with around 700 applicants a year they only accept around 100 for the entire BA and BFA program (correct me if I’m wrong but that’s what I read last!!) I want to major in musical theater and I’ve heard that the dance auditions at Pace are brutally hard. I’ve taken jazz and musical theater off and on since I was 9 but right now I’m not taking dance but I hope to take dance this summer going into junior year. I currently take private voice lessons with a good teacher who helps me on improving my voice and finding good songs for me to sing with my baritone/tenor voice. I participate in several school and community productions which I have been doing since I was 8 as well as summer theater camps which include workshops on improv, acting, and dance. But I still feel like I need more training on all three genres. I always seem to go back to the “I’m not good enough” insecurity which my voice teacher said I can’t go back to if this is what I want to do. What else should I be doing to prepare and what other schools have BFA in musical theater but are not as competitive?
Thanks!
You should probably post this under the Musical Theatre Major forum. I’m sure you’ll get more responses there. I feel that there are many great schools that offer a Musical Theatre BFA and you will need to find the right one for you. Some are more cut throat than others. Visit the schools and see if it feels like a fit for you. I’m sure you’ll find your perfect school.
