auditions

Hi, has anyone who auditioned for SUNY Fredonia’s MT program heard back yet? My daughter just auditioned this past weekend and I’m wondering how long it will take to hear an answer and if it will be via email or snail mail. Also, does anyone know how competitive it is to get into the BFA program? Thank you!

@theatredancemom My son is already a student at Fredonia so he’s not auditioning this year, but I’ve heard of one MT acceptance and one redirection to BFA Acting from students who auditioned this year (one auditioned on campus a week and a half ago. I don’t know how they got their acceptance (mail, online, etc). Their program is not in the ‘highly competitive’ range, but they definitely do not accept all who audition.

If you have any questions about the program, let me know, and best of luck with all of your daughter’s auditions this year!

There is still another audition on March 28th. I assume they will hold out on some notifications until after that date.

My daughter got her letter yesterday and she was accepted into the BFA Acting program not the MT program. Does anyone have any info on that program? Just curious if it’s something she should still consider.

@theatredancemom my son is in the BFA Acting program. He is a senior. He’s never been interested in MT and loves acting, so I can’t say whether your daughter would like the difference. She can re-audition once for MT at Fredonia. I was telling another mom on this board that it’s definitely not a guarantee and I’ve seen several kids re-audition for MT and not make it that time either, so it’s a risk that you take. All of the kids audition for all of the shows (plays and musicals), and I’ve seen plenty of Actors in their musicals. Your daughter could also take dance classes and voice instruction class for non-voice majors (which is a 1-credit course) and with the plethora of musicians in and around Fredonia, private voice lessons to continue to work on that (either while waiting to re-audition, or if they are staying in the Acting track). The MTs definitely have an MT curriculum and have access to upper level classes that the Actors don’t (and the actors are taking upper level acting classes that the MTs aren’t). My son’s girlfriend is a senior MT and I can get answers to specific questions if you have any. Just let me know (feel free to PM me if you want). And congratulations to your daughter!

Thank you so much for the reply and the information! I may reach out again with other questions as we continue to narrow down the programs if that’s okay.

@theatredancemom of course! Anytime.
