Australian International Student applying to elite US colleges

Hi CC,
I'm an Australian high school international student looking to apply to elite US colleges in a few years time. However I am really worried about the level of competition and would appreciate any insight from successful international applicants (particularly Australian) to Ivy league unis, Stanford, MIT, NYU, UMich, UChicago, Amherst, Williams, Duke etc. on the application process and what it takes to make it. Thank you in advance :)

The elite universities are looking for students with some extra-curricular distinction in addition to stellar high school records: successful participants of academic competitions (e.g. the International Math Olympiad), young enterpreneurs, community leaders, competitive athletes, etc.

Find something you feel passionate about and pursue it with the vigor one would expect to see from a future leader!
