No it doesn’t. I have never implemented the PUSH notification feature to the public version.

Maybe I would if they’ve accepted me. :)

well hopefully we find out soon, I’ve heard whispers of decisions being released this coming week.
(cautious optimism)

I was one of the “lucky” ones to hear the decision in the last wave. I got rejected.

ah man, i’m sorry, you definitely deserved to get in!

Thanks. (10chars)

Hahaha this idea of a checker is quite funny. Although you probably didn’t have to reinvent the wheel, I’m sure theres services out there that can monitor pages for you and send email notifications when the content changes. But then I’m guessing a lot of them can’t handle the authentication, and you probably took this little project on for more than just the end functionality, for the fun of making it.

It’s probably getting flagged by heuristics because its constantly using an encrypted channel to an outside server, which is what many rootkits and such do to get commands from an external command server (since outgoing web connections usually don’t get flagged by the firewall as much as incoming ones do). You should also make the checks less frequent to reduce the unnecessary load you’re putting on the Mich servers.

Lastly, pm me a link to the code? Or better still, an svn repo?

And oh yeah, I just read the last page of this thread, chill about not getting in. There’s been cases where they haven’t picked a student because they thought he was so good he wouldn’t come, and that would ruin their yield. Especially for internationals.

@skorned
I completely agree with you on the heuristic detection and that page monitoring services don’t support authentication and etc.

I have added a feature for users to customize the check interval. I will upload the source and send you a link as soon as possible. You seem knowledgeable on programming. Are you a college student majoring in CompSci?

By the way, I don’t think that the reason of my rejection is that I am too good to choose them. It is probably because I am an international student and they are way too selective this year; or they were too focused on academics that they didn’t care about my interest and previous accomplishments.

OMGMIT, glad to see you again. Last time I saw your post (this post is getting ridiculously long), you were going to decide between UIUC and another school. Have you decided?

I was going to decide between UIUC and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. I think I will be going to UIUC since they have great reputation in my field.

Even though I’ve made my mind up to a certain point, I still haven’t deposited. I am planning to do so today or tomorrow.

Best of luck at UIUC OMGMIT! :-)

Thanks rjkofnovi.

OMGMIT, you are quite an interesting individual. Congratulations on post number 1,000 on CC and senior member status. I never tried your automatic status checker to see how it works but it has made quite an impact on a number of posters on CC. Your innovation will take you far in the world. I’m sorry U-M was unable to discern this in its review of your application. Best of luck at UIUC.

Thank you res ipsa. What you’ve said means a lot. My first choice was UMichigan but UIUC is also a great school and I can receive a great education and a prestigious degree from there.

I have a lot of friends who graduated from UIUC. You will learn to develop a deep and passionate hatred of Michigan there but you will get a good education and have a good time there. ILL – INI.
