I just talked to an advisor at the CSE department, she said that they have not sent ANY decisions out yet - they are still reviewing applications. So those of you (CSE or EE majors) who already had the transcript load, it may be a while still before you get your letters.
Just called the U and no decision has been made on my application yet, getting real nervous…
Just received an email from an officer with regards to missing information on my application. I believe they will respond sooner in the next few days to those waiting for a decision. Goodluck to all!
Just saw that my application status on the old MyUW site was changed to the “Congratulations…” message! So, really quick, my stats were a 3.83 college GPA, Indended major is Neurobiology, SAT math was 530 (yuck), writing was 690, reading was 670.
Good luck to all of you prospective transfers!!
@JakeMadian I’m getting super nervous too. Still no news for me either.
What happens if all the transfer spots fills for CS? Just curious.
@aabdin03, how many credits do you have? Are you from a cc?
From what I understand, the UW does not keep a waitlist once all the spots are filled (meaning, everyone who will attend has paid their deposit and sent in their acceptance letter.) So, if someone drops out in the middle of the autumn quarter, a spot will not open up; you can just apply again for the next quarter.
@CompSci18 I have 96 credits and am from Seattle Central. I am waiting to hear from both UW (bothell and Seattle Campuses), I would prefer Seattle campus, but they are very limited and competitive. I am wondering if the spots fills up before the my app is reviewed, will they automatically reject the remaining applicants or waitlist them. Thanks too.
Oh, I see. No, it does not work like that. Bothell is rolling admission, so once they are full, they are full. But for Seattle, they review all of the applicants before deciding who gets in and who does not, so whether you get in or not, your application will be reviewed and compared to other candidates.
I am still waiting to hear from both Bothell and Seattle, and also prefer Seattle!
@aabdin03 what does your Bothell application say right now? Mine said it was last updated on July 11th, but nothing else has changed. I wonder if that’s a sign that we’ll hear soon from them at least? Good luck to you!
Finally decided to post. Really anxious and depressed :-(.
Associate of arts (language and linguistic) applicant here and still waiting. Congrats to those who have been accepted. It seems like this week had been focusing on mostly CS and biology major tho, hopefully they will start accepting other applicants tomorrow. (crossing fingers)
@CompSci18 The thing is they have already sent decisions to CS students while they have not reviewed other students applications"Congratulations to all Accepted". So then my question is, who are they comparing to who?
@CompSci18 my Bothell application says “Last updated July 27th”. Good Luck to you too.
@aabdin03 Tbh, I don’t think it’s possible. It doesn’t make sense if they give all the spots to CS department, then what was the point of receiving other majors’ applicants? Plus, I feel like every department has their limited spots to provide. But oh well, what do I know. All we have to do is to be patient and hopefully we will get the decisions soon.
@Meowwz I mean just the CS department spots not the whole transfer applicants spots.
@aabdin03 Oops, my bad. But still, I don’t think that’s the case even for a specific department. Anyway good luck!
@Meowwz Thanks. Wish You Luck Too.
@aabdin03 I talked to an advisor in person today, she said they have not officially sent out ANY decisions. So, the online thing is a glitch in the system somewhere, and yes, in previous years those people were then admitted, but it is not official until you receive something in the mail.
You have to think, though, there are probably applicants that they know will beat out others (even if they have not read other applicants), in which case you get a sooner response, just like if they know you are a definite ‘no’, then they may immediately update to let you know you were rejected. Then there are ‘maybes’, and each time they read a new applicant’s file, they decide if that one should be on the maybe file or if it is a definite. That said, you may be the best candidate in the group, but they may only get to your application on the last day, in which case you would have been a definite, but just happened to be notified in the last group.
She said the order in which you find out has nothing to do with how good of a candidate you are, but they do not send out final decisions until they have reviewed ALL of the applicants, because, like I said, the best candidate of the group may be the last application reviewed.
There is also not exactly 300 spots available, there is ‘about’ 300 spots available, so it could be 312 or 291 - it really depends on how many applicants they feel are really strong enough to make it, so again, if you were a really strong candidate and you are person #301, you may get in anyways.
Not sure if I am making sense in the way I am explaining it, but that’s what I understood after my conversation today.
@CompSci18 Thanks alot. It all makes sense. I am meeting with CS Advisor tomorrow. Do you think they will let you know if you ask them the status of your application?
Thanks again. That was really a great eye-opener information.
@aabdin03 I know over the phone they can tell you if a decision has been made on your application, but they cannot tell you what the decision is. (So, “yes, a decision has been made on your application” they can do over the phone, but they cannot say “You were accepted/rejected”, just because of a ton of student privacy laws in Washington. In person they may be able to tell you what the decision is. Mine has not been reviewed yet, so no decision yet This wait is excruciating! LOL.
