Well, the app period is closed. Let the wait begin! From posts on a similar thread for last year's winter Q, we should start hearing something around the first week of November. I'm the typical transfer applicant, community college with DTS AA degree and major prereqs done, good GPA, decent essay. Good luck to all who applied! :)>-

So I’m the only one who applied for Winter quarter transfer admission then? Great! I’m in!!

Hey fellow transfer! I was just poking around to start a thread and found yours!

I’m a non traditional student who floundered at another university, went to CC got great grades and a great GPA and now I’m trying to transfer to UW or SU. I have an AA-DTA, and lots of relevant work/life experience.

I wish UW let us know faster! Everywhere else had a much later application date and let’s us know much faster if we got in.

I was curious if you guys had heard about the unofficial transcript trick. Ive heard that if it loads then apparently that means you’re accepted, and after reading last years thread it seems like its loads around a week before you receive the acceptance letter.

@Colton10 You are correct. As an autumn transfer, my unofficial transcript loaded ion June 10 and got my letter on the 10th. For nearly all of those w/ a loaded transcript, their acceptance letter arrives 3-4 days later. However, there are a few people who got their letter first before their transcript loaded. The only time it doesn’t work is if your are already a non-matriculated student or you are already accepted to another UW campus. In summary, If your transcript loads, you’re in. If it doesn’t, you may still be in.

edit: BTW, a select few may hear back before the notification period but most will get a response withing the notification period. Engineering majors will hear back last at the end or after the notification period.

I’ve read that thread as well. I saw the discussion about the “transcript trick”. From the thread it looks like we won’t begin hearing anything until the end if October/beginning of November. Such a wait!

Is everyone here a local?? What are intended majors?

I’m from here and I’m going for is international studies focus under the business degree!

UW net IDs have been sent out! Let the insane transcript checking begin!

Hi all! I also applied to the UW as a transfer for winter 2015. I applied last year to UW Bothell and got in, but decided not to attend. So every time I load my unofficial transcript, my Bothell classes and program load. Does this mean the transcript trick won’t work for me?

@Andielle I don’t think it will because the trick is that it will load when it previously would not. Good luck!!

I’m a local Washington resident. I also applied for winter quarter 2015 and I’m transferring from a community college with my AA. I have a 3.4 gpa. It’s low because I started community college in the early 2000’s and didn’t do well my first year, so just started working til I found what I wanted to do. I’m in my mid-twentys now. Work as an assistant manager. Made presidents honor roll several times during my time in CC. Does anyone know if I’ll have a chance at getting into UW? I’m going in for digital art/experimental media. I also explained in my essay about my finacial struggles and how I wasn’t very motivated back when I was 18. What are my chances of getting in?

@Husky1995
@pinkforgetmenots

Also, what are your guy’s Gpa’s at your community college?

Hi @Kittykat89, glad to see more prospective transfers trickling into this board! I’ve been planning to transfer to the UW for a few years now and there really doesn’t seem to be a specific type of student the UW looks for. I watch the transfer thread every year and a lot of people I typically would assume acceptance to the school get denied and people I think will definitely not get in end up being offered admission. Obviously good grades, extracurriculars, etc help but I think they make a lot of exceptions based on however they are feeling that day.

Whew! Sorry for the novel! In regards to your second question I have a 3.7 cumulative

@Kittykat89 I think you will be fine. If you look at the average transfer GPA from the UW site, it was a 3.49 in 2012; I doubt it has significantly increased since then. I got in for autumn quarter with the same stats as you—3.4 transfer GPA with an AA. From talking to admissions, the biggest factor is your preparation for your intended major because you have to declare a major when you accumulate 105 credits. In other words, having all the prerequisite courses for your intended major is a big plus for your application.

BTW, if you look at the Autumn 2014 transfer thread, you’ll see plenty of applicants with roughly 3.2 - 3.4 GPAs get in. If you’re out of state, then it will be much more difficult. I know what it’s like waiting for your decision. I had the same feeling from January up until my transcript and letter arrived in early June. Remember that the average is roughly 3.5. Because it is an average, half of all students will be above that and the other half below.

@kittykat89 I have a 3.54 cumulative. I will only have 62 credits by the end of this quarter though, so I’m a little worried about the fact that I don’t have an AA yet. I will have all of my major prerequisites done for my intended major. Do ya’ll think the fact that I have less than 90 credits will decrease my chances of getting in? My GPA is pretty average.

@Andielle The transcript trick will work for you too. I was accepted to Tacoma first, and during the last week of October my transcript changed to show the college of arts and sciences, my intended major, and “Tacoma” had disappeared. While it is far less noticeable, it can be a good indicator of acceptance. Good luck to you all!

Thank you @jsmith210! Can anyone tell me what they think my chances of getting accepted are? I have a 3.54 GPA, 1800 SAT (which I sent in), I will have 62 credits by winter quarter, all of my prerequisites for my major (communication) complete, and I am Romanian so I wrote in my essay about communication and being Romanian. I was a part of my community volunteer program here in the city I live in and horseback ride so I would love to be on their horseback riding team. I go to a 2 year college here in Washington, however, I just graduated high school in June and did 47 off my college credits while doing running start full time in high school. Any input would be appreciated! :)

@pinkforgetmenots Yes, I agree. My sister goes to UW and one of her friends from high school had a 3.8gpa, was in band, did lots of volunteer work but didn’t get accepted. Her boyfriend on the other hand had a low gpa, but was in sports and had a job, and got accepted. A lot of people were surprised because he didn’t care too much about his grades. So you just never know. Sometimes it seems like it’s just random selection. I think you will be fine though. A 3.7 gpa is great and you got your AA. I also read on your other post you applied to SU. You must’ve gotten accepted by now(: So at least you have a back up college in Seattle to fall back on.

Thank you @potatomawnster that gives me some hope. I have my AA and major figured out, but I haven’t gotten all of my prerequisites done for them. I have planned what classes to take at UW though and what I need to do to prepare and get into the program so hopefully that helps. If not, I found out that I got accepted to SU and Western. So at least I’ll have some colleges to fall back on, just gotta wait to hear from UW. The wait is killing me.

Does anyone know if applying to another UW campus (Bothell or Tacoma) hurts your chance of getting admitted to the Seattle campus? I’m sure no one knows for sure (as with most other admission decision based questions), but any input would be helpful. I have heard that it can hurt your chances since the UW is trying to grow the other campus’ (with the intent that you will simply go to one of the other campus’ if they see you applied to another and deny you admission to the Seattle campus).
