Aventa Learning AP Classes

For my senior year, I really want to take the AP World History course, but my school doesn’t offer it. So, they can sign me up through Aventa Learning. However, my counselor is sort of freaking out and saying these Aventa courses are impossible to score high on. She is almost trying to downright discourage me from taking the class. I also want to sign up for AP US History, and she especially freaked out that I wanted to take two.

I was trying to research Aventa Learning on this forum, but everyone that talked about Aventa seemed to not have too much trouble. I understand it’s more work than a normal class, but the amount my counselor is talking about seems a little ridiculous.

So, has anyone taken AP World or APUSH through Aventa and can share their experiences?

bump bump bump

I don’t do my courses through Aventa learning, but I do go to an online high school and I don’t think I would be able to handle the coursework if I was going to regular school as well. I would probably be able to handle one course, though. It is harder to do well, but if it’s something you really want to do to boost your college apps and you are prepared to work hard, then you should go for it.

You can also take classes through the school I go to and the credits would count. A lot of people do that. You would just need to send a separate transcript to colleges. The courses are self-paced so there aren’t any due dates (which sounds great, but makes it a lot harder), but it would be helpful if you have a lot of homework one night and can’t get to your course or something like that. I would personally start it over the Summer if you were to do that because then you can ensure that you will finish it on time. You’ll have a full year to actually finish the course, but I’m sure you’d want to finish it before the exam.

Thanks! I’ve really thought into it and I realized taking on the load of two would probably be too difficult if I actually wanted to get anything out of it. But I’m still up for the challenge of one. I think I’ve decided on AP US because it seems easier and I know less about it.

I was thinking about taking them by myself. But my school pays the tuition for me, so…

I take aventa, AP US Government currently… worst idea ever. It’s a lot of busy work with assignments, and the tests for me weren’t curved. I wouldn’t say they are extremely hard, but getting what would be a 5, 70%, would still be a C. If your passionate about learning those two history classes, I would just self study them. Takes motivation, but is doable.

From someone taking Apush through Aventa, don’t do it is my best advice. Testing software is so bugged it will make you scream, and the notes are largely useless. You will find yourself just doing the assignments (many of them tedious), and reading American Pageant. If it’s this or no Ap I would recommend it, but only under that circumstance. If possible register with Florida Virtual School instead.

Is it possible to do Florida Virtual Learning when not in Florida? And I was thinking about Apex. They have the actual curriculum laid out on the website, and it doesn’t look too crazy.

what about ap world through aventa?

^ Yes, it is possible. I personally prefer FLVS over other online classes because they don’t give you as much busy work (for the classes I’m taking at least. I saw some of the classes that my friends take on aventa and apex, and they give an insane amount of work).

I asked my friends about Apex, and none of them liked it. Apparently apex gives a lot of busy work, and since they have set deadlines, you don’t have much flexibility in the course. I would die if I went with apex instead of FLVS because sometimes I don’t do homework for a week due to being overloaded with ECs/my job/etc, but then manage to do a week’s worth of homework over the weekend. If FLVS had deadlines, I would have never taken online courses in the first place…

The material is ok, but the school sucks. My teachers havent gotten back about anything. It does have a number of bugs as well

Aventa AP Psych is pretty interesting. It links you to a ton of cool videos and you get to discuss Psychology articles of your choice.

never take an online AP course because you think you want to. I promise you that you don’t want to. there are bugs in the system, my online teacher is a psycho who gave me a failing grade on a pretty decent DBQ, and its way more work than you think its going to be
