Average ACT score in Stanford.... 26?

Average freshman high school GPA: 3.90
Average freshman SAT verbal score: 715
Average freshman SAT math score: 722
Average freshman ACT score: 26

wha???? O_o If this is true I'm looking better already.

On collegeboard it says mid 50% students had a score of 26-31

Statistics from 2005-2006 can be found at http://www.stanford.edu/home/statistics/

If you scroll down to C9, it says the ACT composite score consists of a 25th percentile score of 29, and a 75th percentile score of 33.

Wow, I guess either sparknotes is wrong or there are some MASSIVE outliers.

That's almost certainly incorrect.

What does it mean when it says mid 50%??

25 percent have higher stats and 25 percent are lower than those stats and the other 50 percent are in that range

No, the 26-31 is correct. Only because Stanford gets so few Act scores, they tend to be lower. On their website they don't report act scores saying that because there are so few it is "statistically irrelevent". They use a conversion now, so don't expect to get in with a 26 Act.

I wonder if Stanford requests that athletes take the ACT so they can slip them in somewhat udner the radar.

They do report the ACT scores.
http://www.stanford.edu/home/statistics/ specifically says in section C9 that 23% or 383 students submitted ACT scores and then goes on to specifically state that the middle 50% scores are from 29-33.

Ahh, you're right. I was looking here: http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=3387&profileId=6 and at the viewbook. (It says the irrelevent thing in the viewbook. And though 23% submits the Act, according to the collegeboard, 97% send the Sat. Meaning 77% sends Sat, 3% send the Act and 20% send both.

Hmm that isn't a very good sentance is it?
