<p>What is the average amount of financial aid that most UC students will receive? I'm from a middle class family and everything, and I know the annual fee is around 30,000. Around how much aid do most people get?</p>
<p>Are you an in state resident? What is your family’s income. A quick overview is if you are instate and under about 70k you may get CalGrant which covers tuition. If you are under 80K you may get Blue&Gold which also covers tuition. Besides that, freshman year Stafford loans of 3500 and 2000. A few other sources for low-low income (Pell, etc). So, if you are over that 70-80k range generally you only qual for the Staffords.</p>
<p>Honestly, the LAST thing you care about is the average financial aid award. What you ShOULD care about is the amount of need based aid you will receive with YOUR family’s financial picture…and if you are an instate resident.</p>
<p>I’ll stick my neck out and say…you are unlikely to get much aid at all if you are OOS. The Cal Grants are the primary need based award given by the UCs and you have to be an instate resident to qualify for them. If you are OOS, and you will be looking at a sizable cost to attend the UCs.</p>

<p>Have your parents do a fafsa webcaster and see where you guys are. Remember that with all of the budget issues with the gov. and the state, funding is very tough. Consider applying for A LOT of scholarships to help you on your way. </p>

<p>Finances can sometimes be a difficult thing for parents to share. And the webcaster will give you an idea of what it considers as income, assets, etc.</p>
<p>Alright. Are there any scholarships that are easy to get. I’m going to apply for a lot of local scholarships, but are there any out there that aren’t that difficult to get. Ones that arent that popular?</p>
<p>Ha ha…if I knew any, I’d save for my son. Actually the local ones seem easier to get. So far my son has won none of the “bigger” scholarships but did win $2250 in local scholarships. We have another friend who has won $4500. </p>
<p>Some scholarships have very little advertisement or participation and are easier to get. Others you may get because it plays to your strength (writing or community service or ?). And then some have more to do with your financial situation or your ethnic/religious background.</p>
<p>There are scholarships for college students also…after you get in college, see the FA/Career center for more info on those and/or check with major department.</p>
