Average gpa

Hello,

I was wondering if the average gpa reported by penn and other ivys were out of a 4.0 or 5.0 scale.

I currently have a 5.0 gpa and would want to know what percentile that would place me in.

Unweighted 4.0

Whats the average weighted for admitted students?

It would be meaningless as there is no consistent rubric for HS weighting. Some HS’s don’t weight any classes. If you want to compare yours, look at the UW GPA.

should I then report my unweighted gpa on the common app?

As in whats best, a 4.0 unweighted or 5.0 weighted?

Per the common app instructions, you should report weighted if both are available. However, Penn, and almost all colleges, will look at the GPA as it appears on your transcript, not what you report.

How Penn, or any other school, looks at GPA is out of your control, so speculating on it is just wasting energy.

My school doesnt officially report gpa, so I can report it. Basically I had the maximum grade possible throughout my entire school career, so its a 5.0 or 4.0, what would look better?

What’s on your transcript if your school doesn’t report GPA?

just all my school grades basically all my subjects and all As, international student

And they don’t average those grades together?

nope

Its all A so it should be an average of A. They say on the common app they dont do GPA,.

So it doesn’t matter what the average GPA is, because you don’t have a GPA…right?

yea, i just got the max grades evrywhere. so now im wondering what looks better, a 4.0 or 5.0

It doesn’t matter, because neither of those are accurate, because you don’t have a GPA.

Perhaps you should call Penn and ask how you should fill out the form in this instance.

yea, i just got the max grades evrywhere. so now im wondering what looks better, a 4.0 or 5.0

Alright called them and got it sorted

@Finapp It’s better not to report anything, especially if your school doesn’t do any GPA thing because it’s not even mandatory on common app. Plus, if your school follows British CIE grades, your school will report it for you that.
