Would anyone happen to know the average (around 50th percentile) GPA of students admitted to Columbia College? I can't seem to find the information on their common data set website. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I saw this on Parchment, so I can’t say it’s entirely credible, but they said:

Admitted Students:

25%: 3.85
50%: 3.97
75%: 4.00

Wow. That’s extremely high if it’s unweighted.

They generally don’t give an average accepted GPA because every school calculates GPA differently.

Here’s what I say to students and parents when I speak at college info sessions for my HYP alma mater:

“If you happen to be one of the top handful of scholars in your class, known widely by the faculty and even the principal, then you *might *be a viable applicant.”

By implication, I would say that if one isn’t in that small handful, then barring some other hook, that student isn’t a very viable candidate.

It’s not the number of your GPA, prometheus. Are you singly one of the strongest students in your school in years?

Thanks for all the responses. I’m asking because one of the classes I’m currently taking WILL, barring unforeseen circumstances, remove any hope of me making a 4.0 GPA (even if I get A’s in all the rest of my classes I’ll only have a 3.97-3.99 unweighted). The course I’m currently doing badly in is notoriously hard (An unhooked kid who went to Caltech and another who went to Yale had both gotten B’s in it) yet doesn’t have a standout name (Honors designation; not AP or IB). As to my current situation, I believe I rank at least within the top ten students of the class (out of approx. 450-480 people) at a decent public school (sends 2-3 kids to an Ivy or equivalent and another 4-5 to top twenty schools each year, it’s also ranked within the top 5% of high schools nationally). To T26E4, I think I could get decent teacher recommendations with regards to my academic abilities but I’m worried about my lack of classroom interaction (I can be pretty shy). In terms of admission chances, I’m mostly relying on the fact that I have a couple of decent extracurricular activities (strong passions with state and national awards) and one possibly outstanding one (rather rare and successful). Also a 2300+ single sitting SAT score probably doesn’t hurt. So my question is, as long as I continue to strive for success (get A’s in all my other classes) and become more vocal in school affiliated events, do I stand a chance of getting into Columbia, my dream school, even without a 4.0? Is the difference between a 3.96 and a 3.98 or a 3.98 and 4.0 so insignificant in the grand scheme of things that Adcoms could care less? Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that I’m currently a sophomore.
