just out of curiousity, what would the stats have to be for an african american applying to penn(wharton)?

Um, it really is on a case-by-case basis.

it really is a case by case basis. Very, very subjective.

Two blacks got into Penn (not Wharton) at my school:

1350 SAT
3.7 GPA
17/260 rank

1280 SAT
3.9 GPA
3/260 rank

Contrasted with the one white applicant I know of who was rejected:

1530 SAT
4.0 GPA
1/260 rank

He was ****ed and is now a Republican.

See, it's not even worth posting stuff like this. These are three isolated cases (out of many), and you've left out three important factors--essays, recs and ECs. Their stats are good enough that those three factors could've been enough, and URM might have given only a minor boost. The fact is that it's very subjective and on a case-by-case basis.

Are jewish people URM?

whoever started this post needs to shove it... u need to be smart and hardworking... black white or purple- i got a 2230 on my SATs with an A- average and was wait listed and i'm black... so just shut up

"Are jewish people URM?"

No, Penn is 30% Jewish. And most top universities have a disproportionate number of Jews (go us!).

No offense to a lot of these members but a lot of kids i think expect that having a high GPA and good test scores are gonna get you into school. I think if you can do that and do **** with your life i mean EC's then you should get in but who wants to accept people who just participate in these bootleg clubs that are just started for the purpose of getting into college. I mean do a sport or and Intel project something that actually a serious invesment of time just my two cents

looks like this is about to turn into another affirmative action thread!! y does this always happen??

It's definately case by case. When looking at URMs, schools are more leniant with SATs b/c a lot of it coincides with $$$, etc. They aren't particuarly leniant with grades. YOu have to be an awesome student to get into Wharton... period. But if you're a poor URM with a 1350 SAT and yet have an A+ avg, amazing ECs, etc, colleges would be interested.

gtownbound thank you! i sooo agreee.
