I've seen a lot of percentile statistics for the average SAT scores of Columbia students, but all have been a bit vague. Most of them just show the 25%-75% range, which is 1980 - 2220. The mean of these two numbers is 2100, but based on a lot of the replies in the various "chance me" threads, 2100 seems a bit low to be the average. So, if anyone knows off hand what the actual average is, or a site where I could find it, it would be much appreciated.

I think the higher SAT scores you have the less hooks you need?

No. You need to have "the complete package" (SAT, grades, ECs, good essays) no matter what. The SAT range reflects the fact that Columbia really doesn't see much of a meaningful difference between a 1450 and a 1550.

I have heard from a former adcom at Penn that unless you have a substantial hook, most Ivies will not look at you with less than 1450 cr/m. From what I have seen, that is true, except for URMs, recruited athletes, and the children of celebrities (or celebrities themselves.).

Not really true at Columbia. Plenty of "normal" people (non celeb/URM/athletes) with high 1300s / low 1400s get in. They generally have otherwise stellar academics (high grades and APs) plus strong "everything else."

Side point, the term "hook" is an easy term to throw around but it grossly oversimplifies the process.

If you're donald trump's grandson, i don think you need a complete package to get in (penn or columbia).. One huge hook is enough

When we're talking about numbers, nobody's thinking about the obvious exceptions like URM/donors/athletes/celebs.

SAT is part of the complete package.. If you have a hook like being a celebrity's son.. You don't need the complete package or the high SAT.. If you're a normal person, you'll need the complete package and SAT..

Yes, you need an SAT that, together with the rest of your academic record, suggests you're academically stellar. The complete package doesn't automatically mean 1470+.

I'm only a high school senior.. Who's been here not even a year.. Who's still learning.. Who just said what he thinks..

Say what you know. If you want to tell someone what you think (but know you don't know), preface what you think with the fact that you know you don't know.

I still don't think what i said was entirely wrong lol..

You said several incorrect things. You admitted that you don't know what you're talking about. It's not helpful if you guess at answers as if you actually know what you're talking about.
