I didn't think I wanted a school out of the Northeast exept Miami and Michigan but am realizing there are so many awesome schools in the South. Vanderbilt is a school which I thought would have been out of my league and still might but I am wondering what their average SAT's are? Are they weighted very heavily?
How would a low GPA but strong SAT go over there? Is it even worth my applying with a combined math/reading of about 1380-1400 and a lowish GPA? I do have good recs and strong ecs.

And last.............what is it like for someone born and raised in NY to go to Tennessee? I know there is much to be said about southern hospitality, and the ones I know are super nice. Is there anything that makes it difficult for someone from NY? Are the kids from the South much different? Just curious. Thank you!

My SAT was 2080 and my ACT was 32 and I got into Vanderbilt. I won't be attending, but I did get accepted.

And yeah, things are a lot slower in the South, people tend to be friendlier and will take time out of their day to talk to you. At least that's what I've experienced when I was down there. (I'm from NY also) I made it a point to only apply to Southern colleges, for both the weather and the atmosphere.

3.89 2260 not surE if i;m going yEtt

...............................................................

yeah vandy has a great atmosphere and the south rocks... people are upbeat overall better-looking and nicer, never been to ny so i dont know if it is like boston, which i thought was dreary drab and basically depressing, but if ny is like boston then the south is the polar opposite

I believe I read the avg SAT scores this year is right over 1400 like 1410 or something close. Where I got in and will be going to Vandy, I do know that my best friend didnt get in with better scores than myself. If you have lower SAT score, you must hit a homerun with your essay. That is how my wife got in because her scores were below the 25%-75% percentile. Be honest and talk about yourself and what is your passions and go for it. You will not regret it. Vandy is awesome. I believe the main difference between NY and Nashville is that you will spend more time outside enjoying everything that encompasses and the people are very friendly.

the average SATs range depending on the school. I'm pretty sure, though, that for the College of Arts and Sciences, the middle 50% is 1320/1330 - 1500/1510 and roughly 90% of the class was in the top 10% of their high school classes. I heard all of this at the Open House for admitted students for A&S

also i should point out that the middle range i just posted is for critical reading and math only. with writing its about 2000 - 2270 for CAS
