Average SSat Score percentiles- please help!

yes!! that does thank you so much!!

hi guys! So I took another practice test and scored a 2224 in total. I am currently a female student in 9th grade. Is this a good ssat score for me? And around what percentile would this roughly put me in? My top choices are Trinity School NYC and Horace Mann NYC.

The percentile to score relationship changes depending on the test. A 2224 should put you at about 90th percentile.

I got 93% on the SSAT and was rejected from all the top boarding schools. I did apply for 10th grade which is a very limited spot, and I was happy at my school and was only going to leave if I got into one of those top schools, which I didn’t.

Definitely better to be safe and redo it.

@Fahrenheit123456 What schools did you apply and rejected with that great score? How were the interviews ? And your hooks?

my kids have a 10point difference between their SSATs and the higher one was rejected at a school the other kid got into (after the first one had applied). The SSAT is just a threshold and then intangibles like how well spoken the candidate is, ECS, the candidates interests, etc. are used to further determine entry.

My top picks are independent NYC day schools, Trinity and Horace Mann, do you think it would be any easier to get into those since there’s no boarding? I’m still aware they’re both extremely hard to get into though

I applied to Andover, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Groton, Middlesex and Choate. My interviews were really good, I was just completely unfamiliar with the process of making the application, the essays, and so on. I didn’t really know how to do that well, especially since I’m an international student.

Probably also got unlucky. But the SSAT is only one parameter.

Trinity and Horace Mann have even lower acceptance rates than top boarding schools. So, it will be even harder to get in.

Totally speculating here, but maybe international students generally have higher scores? 93% is a great score. I don’t think it’ll be used to work against you.

I have to stress that the SSAT scores are just a small portion of the application. DS was in the 98th percentile, played AAA sports, was active in community service and was captain of his team. He was WL’d to 10 schools (most of the ones named above).
I would submit your scores if they are not abysmal. This year most schools are TO, so if they are in fact bad, take this opportunity to make the rest of your application shine and don’t even provide them.
And don’t listen to people who tell you that because your SSAT scores are low, you are a poor candidate.

PS – take this advice with you when you apply to colleges. There is WAY too much stress being placed on the ACT/SAT. Y’all are more than just a standardized test score. Be confident in the PERSON that you are and present that to the schools.

I agree with what @buuzn03 said. Test scores don’t define you and you can still get accepted! Good luck!
