Average Students Accepted to their Top Choices

^ You can definitely get in...

^ seriously? your story is kinda my hope duffman, haha! (with the exception that you have 10 aps and a 4.0w gpa... bah lol) everyone's been telling me i have no chance (the avg gpa at my school for tufts is about a 4.1...)

I got a C's in Math during my sophomore year (both semesters). I managed to get A's in both PreCalc (junior year) and AP Calc AB (senior year, at least 1st semester)...I guess sophomore year I just wasn't in my best "math-mode." Having one or two C's in your transcript isn't going to kill you, provided you work hard to make up for them.

Don't listen to them. Be a rebel! >D

precocious: It all depends on leadership in EC's, hopefully you have a solid EC that you're a leader in and dedicate yourself to. In addition, all I can recommend is showing Tufts that they are your first choice by: Applying ED I or II if possible, attending an info session, emailing the adcom you meet at the info session, email a professor in the field you wish to go into, send them supplemental info as you progress through your senior year (I.E.; I applied ED I and sent in my 1st quarter senior grades on a report card signed by my guidance counselor, along with a resume of recent achievements; debate awards, etc.), write the optional essay, etc.) If you show Tufts that you want to go there, you will get there. Good luck, if you have any questions about my situation, etc, just PM me. :)

guys dont worry
i have about a 96 ave, 16%, 30 ACT, no varsity sports, good variety of clubs, good recs

i got into all the SUNY schools I applied (including binghamton)
Brandeis
GWU
Lafayette
GT and Cornell
and some others

The only school I didnt get into was tufts..which is understandable

so if i can do it..u all can too!!!

haha i thought i was sure that i was going to ucla....till i got here..with gpa3.7

but....some people saying ucla is reach for gpa under 4.2....what the.

Aw, thanks for the info :) I'm going to apply ED I (if I don't get in, I'm thinking Brandeis ED II) Actually, I don't really have any amazing ECs - my one passion really is art, I just recently won a SK for the Golden Globe Scholastic Art Awards thing... haha. I'll be definitely supplying a portfolio with my app! And a truckload of tutoring community service. I don't really know how to go about talking to the adcom with the info session (I went during the summer, thinking about visiting again during april break!) or e-mailing a prof... but I want to attend their summer program, so maybe I'll see then!

alij1988p: 96% average?! :( aaaah, that's what I'm talking about... well, grats about your other AMAZING schools though! you know where you're going to go?

i dont no if you are refering to a 96 as high or low..but as you can tell...my schools grades are inflated since im like 15-16%...but anyway..I am very pleased and im not saying that I dont think I deserved to get into those schools, because I did work EXTREMELY hard for the last 2 years...rather I am saying that as long as you work hard, it will show through your application and everything in the end works out. and no matter what school you go to, you will still recieve a great education, its what you put in that determines what you will get out of it.

good luck.

ps. Im heading to Brandeis next fall, and im so excited.

i got a 3.5 gpa with a 1740 sat and got into nyu

you guys are taking about how 3.8 is so high and stuff. from what i've read so far, and mind you, i've only been on these forums for a few days, i think that most of the people here are asians. no offense to anyone, but i think that asians are a bit more proactive acedemically than anyother race overall. no doubt there are african americans taht are smart as h*** and same with every other race, but asians seem to worry about college a lot and too soon. i am indian and i think that the reason we worry so much is because of our parents. in my case, my dad has been nagging me to be a doctor since i was like 4. i've had good grades all through school accept 7th and 8th grade, where i got my first C ever. im in ninth right now and i'm back on track with a 3.7 GBA this year because I dont have any honors classes, and hopefuly, since i have all honors classes next year, i'll have a 4.25 or above. my parents were dissappointed this semster because i got a 3.6! really, all you have to do to get good grades is pay attention in class, adn do your homework. in 7th and 8th, the reason i did so bad (!) was because i didnt do my hw. if you think that you can't handle honors classes or someone tells you other wise, tell them to go **** themselves, as long as you do the work and pay attention, the only difference between honors and regular is honors goes into a bit more detail, or a bit faster. I have never studied for a test and i think the lowest i ever got on a single test was a D. usually on tests, I get between 85 and 98. I AM STRESSING THAT YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK BECaUSE FOR MOST (not all the time) CLASSES, IT IS 10%-40% OF YOUR GrADE!! do the math if you fail all your tests, and have a D, you can bring it about to a high C or a low b by doing homework. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS SO EVENTUALLY YoUR BRAIN STARTS TO THINK FASTER AND STORE DATA QUICKER SO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STUDY!! (like me :) good luck bringing that 3.2 or whatever up to a 3.8!! seriously though, i know becaue i Fce* around too much in 7th and 8th and brought up my grade tremendously in 9th, so it really works (sounds kinda like those diet pill commercials huh)

Oh, I can completely empathize with you...the school I plan to go to (UCSD) has this terrible thread where everyone lists their stats. I used to think I was a competent student until I went there...and saw this ****load of amazing scores and ECs. It needles me to feel so unworthy but perhaps the representation on CC is only a small cross section of reality...

think about it.....
students who get 2.4 and 2.2's arent going to care enough to be on cc. they only care about living the moment, so what you see on cc is just the best students who really care about there future enough to be here. :0

i wasn't in the top 10% of my class, and i got into 8 out of 9 of the schools i applied to.....not the easiest schools either

I had like a 3.97 with a 2220 on my SATs. 6th in my class with about a 96.5 average. Good, but not amazing ivy/as good as ivy material. I got into 8 out of 9--two ivies, mit, biomed program at jhu, emory, and some other strange ones that I applied to for the heck of it.
I think it all boils down to extracurriculars and your essays. Do anything and everything you can that's extra to add to your application--have an interview, visit campus, check and double-check your essays. As long as you're solid in your scores, what really pushes it over the edge is all the extra stuff. I'm assuming this because I know ppl that didn't get into the schools that I got into, but they had higher scores.
Admissions are fickle.

wow, it is nice to see some non-4.2's.

I personally am just scraping a 3.0 (recently boosted from a -cringe- 2.5) because i did poorly my sophmore year and in a lot of my math courses. but i disagree with ScAR's statement that students with 2.4's don't care enough to be on cc. I mean, i barely have a 3.0 but college is hugely important to me-as is getting into a good school(in fact, I am having minor quarter-life crisis in trying to determain whether I'm going to end up at the local community college-even my college counselor is sick of my histrionics).

Although my grades have gone up. i am maintaining A's (and one C in math-my brain just isn't wired for that) but I still have no idea what my chances are for the schools I am interested in. Very slim, I have learned, from discussions here. Maybe I should think about writing that textbook for impoverished schoolchildren in Africa...

I am going to go MIT.....1760 SAT.......GPA= 3.95.......i hate the SATs

I am going to go MIT.....1760 SAT.......GPA= 3.95.......i hate the SATs

what was the breakdown of your SATs?

yea some of these people have ridiculous SAT scores and GPAs...

I have a 3.8 GPA and in the IB diploma...but my SAT scores could def. be higher...some of these ppl make me jealous lol

My SAT breakdown is not good at all........I am an URM.....i guess that helped...... oh 760 SAT II physics.........SOME research….good essay......I don’t know.....apparently my grasp of Quantum mechanics is pretty impressive (according to admissions rep)…..I wrote about QM in my app ( not essay)…..

My GPA is going to kill me. But my SAT breakdown isn't too bad...(v 670 m/w both mid 700's I hope)
