I would like to know what is the average undergraduate GPA for UCSB engineering students

i’d like to know that too, i’ve heard the overall ayerage is around B- but that might have remembered it wrong

Average undergraduate GPA is nowhere useful considering the fact that almost every course in most universities will curve the classes’ grades or set up a grading system such that the average GPA will fall around 3.0.

about 1.0 gpa points below your high school gpa

in case this might be useful: [Undergraduate Honors at Graduation, Office of the Registrar](Undergraduate Honors at Graduation - UCSB Office of the Registrar)
it doesn’t tell you about the average GPA but at least u can see that the top 20% get about 3.50 and above

I’m a UCSB engineer (computer engineering). I have a 3.5, and I’m in the top bracket. To advance from the pre-major to the major, you need to maintain I believe a 3.0 in the major classes. Some engineers are struggling to do that. But I don’t know the average GPA. If I had to guess, I’d say somewhere around 3.1 or 3.2.

Remember, undergraduate GPA is all relative. How “good” a GPA is depends on what classes you took and what program you were in. A 3.50 engineering GPA is usually seen as more impressive than a 3.85 communications GPA, for example.

Here’s an article I wrote about UCSB’s engineering, if you’re interested: http://gauchoinsider.com/articles/16

I know this thread is kind of old, but I stumbled across this PDF after reading the featured thread on grade inflation:
[2008-2009 Campus Profile, dated Feb. 2009](http://bap.ucsb.edu/IR/08-09/cp2008.pdf)

There’s a bit more information (divided by class standing) on page 3 of the PDF.

This is a nice find. :)
