Hello,
Does anyone know the average weighted GPA at Dartmouth? Also, how important is weighted vs. unweighted? And finally, does having around a 4.6 seem on track for Dartmouth?
Thanks

You’re asking the avg GPA of accepted students? That varies greatly b/c high schools vary differently. Dartmouth wants students who demonstrate superior academic achievement and potential. One measure of that is your transcript rigor and your success in that. Is 4.6 good for your school? Fine. For someone else, a 3.9 might be excellent.

There is no universal metric about “what’s the avg GPA” – no one compiles it b/c it’s useless.

Generally speaking (aka you are not an athlete or national winner of some sorts of competitions), you should have around a 3.9 unweighted gpa. And of course your transcript can’t be all intro-level classes (if your school offers AP’s, you have better taken as many as you could).

^ lovenerds… i respectfully disagree with your advice “you have better taken as many as you could.” While it is true that at any competitive college you need to show that you took a challenging course load just taking every AP available is not necessary. For example, my son chose to take Chinese which was had such a small enrollment that no AP was offered vs. dropping Chinese and fitting in one more AP course in his senior year. It is my belief that your course selections offer a glimpse into who you are and it is great if they are consistent with the rest of the picture you present in your application.
