My unweighted is like a 3.8, but my weighted is only a 4.2. just wondering how this is relative to vanderbilt. my school's naviance page gives a skewed gpa. also, how holistic is vanderbilt? thanks

It depends on your high school. If your 3.8 puts you in the top 10% at your high school you are OK. If your school has grade inflation and a 3.8 is in the middle of your class you have a problem.
All the most selective U’s are holistic. The term can be and is used in many different ways to help a university “build a class”. As a general rule being a holistic candidate is how they decide which well qualified students to admit, it will not make up for a weak area in your application.

i am top 10 percent in my class, probably top 6 or 7 percent. our school does not use a 4.0 grading scale. my GPA is my weakest component i think

The actual value of your GPA is not incredibly important because it varies so much between schools. Universities will compare your GPA to historical data from your school, use counselor-provided data, and your class rank to understand what your GPA actually means.

Thanks for your help guys. How much does race help for Vanderbilt? left my race out of the common app but they can still see my Asian citizenship.
