Average Workload

Hello everyone!

Currently, I am an honors student at my local community college, and I will be transferring to the University of Iowa with my AA degree in the fall. I will major in English, which I know is a very competitive major at Iowa. My question is this: what type of workload can I expect as an English major? I take at least one Literature course every semester and do very well in them. We usually read 150-250 (or more) pages a week. This is not killing me, but can rather time consuming. I usually write 1 10+ page paper a semester and weekly responses (500-1000 words) along with about 4 other courses and an honors project. Is this at all comparable to the English major workload at Iowa? My current instructors seem to think my worrying is unwarranted, but I’m still a little nervous.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Uhhh…

I don’t know that anyone can answer that for you unless they have/are/know an English major at U Iowa.

All I know is this…

Your upper division courses at U Iowa will generally require more work than lower division coursework at a community college or at the U Iowa.

Most community college transfers have a lower cumulative UI gpa than their cumulative community college gpa. Generally, university coursework is harder than cc coursework.
