Avoid teacher recs from same subject area?

I’m deciding which teachers to ask for my college applications. I’ve noticed that most schools require 2 teacher recommendations.

I’m strongly considering asking my Hon. Bio/ AP Bio teacher who has known me for 3 years and also hosts my club. I also want to ask my Hon. Physics/ AP Physics teacher who has also known me for 3 years. Both these teachers like me very much.

However, both Physics and Biology are science related subject areas. I want to major in biology in college but I’m scared that my recommendation letters are too science orientated and don’t show variety. Will it matter?

Generally, schools would want the recs from 2 different subject areas; it does not have to be 1 STEM and 1 humanities. For instance Penn says:

You can certainly contact to admissions office for your target schools to get their guidance. Good luck!

Many of the colleges I’m familiar with suggest that your rec(s) be from whatever area of study you’re planning to pursue. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having two science recs, but it might be a good idea to see what each of your schools say about it.

Thanks! Do you think a recommendation from an AP Bio teacher and a Spanish 5 teacher would be good?

I think that’s fine.
