Choosing what subject areas to ask for teacher recommendations?

What subject areas should I choose? I’m applying as a prospective bioengineering major and I’ve already asked my AP Physics teacher (I had him for two years, did okay my first, and then received the 3rd highest grade in AP Physics). Should I stay within science areas for my next recommendation? I was planning on asking my anatomy teacher (I have anatomy with him this year and I had biology with him as a freshman), but I’ve heard its best to have recommendations from different subject areas? 3/6 teachers I had my junior year retired last year so Im not sure I’ll be able to track down my English, Adv PreCalc, or APUSH teachers for recs.

Any other advice?

If the college asks that the 2 recs come from 2 separate subject areas (e.g. 1 STEM and 1 humanities), then follow their guidance. For colleges that give no guidance other than saying the recs should come from academic teachers, then it’s your choice.

Unless they are physically unable, I’m quite sure they would still be willing to write recs for former students. Your GC can give guidance on that subject,

Would it be more safe to get 3 teacher recs, say one from physics, one from bio/anatomy, and one from my junior english? I think I will end up asking my english teacher… he liked me and helped me learn to write better but he tired out of necessity so hopefully he will remember to write my rec. Many schools have said that unless the recs are stellar theres no reason to get a third, and no teacher really knows me better than any other, but I think my english teacher would help provide insight about my writing.
