I am a current sophomore at Avon Old Farms and I am here to answer any questions about boarding school. Any questions, from Admission to student life.

I got a student life question here.
as you do go to an all boys school.
So, miss porters, ethel walkers, miss halls, westover, what’s the general preference there, if you noe what i mean.

oh and btw, i have a friend in salisbury and one in avon. till havent decided which side i m on

Well I think since we are closer to Ethel Walkers and Miss Porters they seem to connect with us more. However, I do have friends at all of them and we have student life activities with all of them.

Hi,
We interviewed and toured AOL in Mid July (an unforseen event happened in late winter/early spring that prevented us to have time to apply) for a Sophomore opening this Fall. We just out in late August that the possibility of an open bed has ended now as a student has just confirmed that he/she will return after all. Our son is so bummed (but was also mentally prepared for good or bad news). We have also visited the campus a second time in August. Question … have you heard of any student (sophomore) getting good news within first month of school - especially Sophomore year? thx so much!

typo AOF … sorry about that. Any info on applying as a Junior? Application is rolling and will submit all additional info in the Fall.

Well I do know that the spaces for juniors are more limited then sophomores or freshmen so it will be a little harder to get in. I suggest keeping the grades up because that is what matters most with the admissions process and keep in touch with the admissions staff as much as possible it is good to form a relationship with them.

I am considering Avon old farms as a junior repeat. I have a few questions…

Do any Avon boys have gf’s with the ethel walker and miss porter girls?

2.What is the typical schedule like m-f,saturday and sunday?

How is the work? manageable? Do the teachers really help to make sure you succeed?

Do alot of kids drink/smoke/etc.? What is that like? Is urban dictionary true in anyways? LOL

How do you recommend getting one of the new dorms? What do many kids prefer and what is the differences? (I visited so i sorta know)

Are alot of the guys easy going? If your an average hockey player (jv or maybe thirds and golfer looking to play college maybe d1) will you fit in fine?

What do kids do for fun?

How is the dinning hall (Refectory)?

What do you recommend someone brings if they attend? (like items every guy should have with them) Tv, video games, fridge, etc.

Thank you and your answers are really important in my decision to attend!

they do and there are lot of girlfriends from those schools

classes then sports then dinner, enrichment, study hall 7:45 - 9:45, free time then Bed at 11pm

teachers want to help!!! especially if your will to the work they are also very flexable

no one really does drugs here becuase of the Administration most who drink do it when they are home for break or a weekend. Don’t listen to urban dictionary.

Go to jamerson it is the best dorm. Also if you can’t trying getting into a dorm in the quad the new rooms are nice but far away from the action.

Everyone here is chill and nice play hockey almost everyone does and no one really cares if you play Varsity B jv or thirds there is a team for everyone. Golf Is really on the rise and the team is getting very strong looking to compete for titles. My friend just commited to B.C for golf.

Everything you can Imagine like dodgeball pick up b-ball and there are sometimes trips to NYC, Mlb games, and Nhl games.

The food is ok but this year they have made an effort to improve it.

Bring all you said most people’s rooms are like mancaves.
I hope this helps!!!

What do schools generally look for in applicants? What do schools look at, from your experience, for the applicants that they are going to accept (SSAT scores, recs, etc)? Do you have a chance to get into private schools if your SSAT overall score is 53% but have straight As and play a variety of sports?

Hey prep kid,

Thank you for your informative responses! I visited and talked to the golf coach who told me about a kid who’s at hank Haney golf school that committed to B.C. Avon seems like a really nice school and I’m very excited to be applying.

Hi guys, I’m curious of my chance of getting into Avon Old Farms School. I have straight A’s in all my subjects and all honor classes. I’m on my town swim team, and the level in which I swim is equivalent too a high school team ( 5 days a week, 2 hour practices, 1 meet per week). I study Mandarin Chinese outside of school for 1 hour every week with a private tutor. I play piano and have performed at multiple recitals; I also have 1 30-minute lesson every week. Also, I’m very interested in business and markets, and I have a demo account with a brokerage that allows me to trade with virtual funds. My interview was fantastic, they said I was “Exactly what they’re looking for”. I’m very confident in my essays as well, and I know my teacher recommendations will be excellent. The only downfall I have is my SSAT scores (83 percentile for verbal, 81 for reading, but 28 for math, and a 64 percentile overall). I only had roughly one week to study for the test though, and I’m sure I would’ve done much better on math if I had more time. I made this very clear to the admissions committee. Also, my 64 percentile score is above their average of 60 percentile, so hopefully that will help.

Thanks for any help guys!

I know this it is a bit late, but this is for new applicants. This is an all boys school, and things are a bit different here. The admission would look more into the students’ qualities rather than raw scores and grades. Write unique and interesting essay, and you’ll be half way there.
