I am a rising senior in high school and I recently received an award from St. Lawrence University (it was a book, but I had to walk in front of the entire school so it was a big deal to me), and a few days later I received a handwritten letter from an admissions counselor at SLU, basically saying he serves as my admissions counselor to the college. What do I make of this? I don’t want to feel flattered and get my hopes up for a school that doesn’t actually care that much about me. I honestly don’t know that much about college and what to look for in one, so some help would be appreciated.
It sounds like you received the SLU book award? Typically that award comes with a small scholarship if you are accepted and attend. Congratulations! Yes, it is a big deal to receive the award! Good for you! It means you should apply especially if you are interested in the school.
My son received the same award when he was a junior in high school. He was accepted to SLU but ultimately chose another school.
It’s a great award, congratulations! My daughter won a book award to another school and got a similar letter, but ended up choosing St. Lawrence. Her acceptance packet included a handwritten note from admissions with a personal thought on her college essay from the VP of Enrollment - which was a very nice touch! They gave her an amazing package and she ultimately chose to attend there and will start this fall. It’s a great school!
