award

When I see people post their stats, I always see like 20 different awards. I don’t think I have any. Do you guys know any well known state or national competitions that I could enter as a junior besides Intel(Way too stressful). I am interested in Math and hope to major in finance. thx

i am intimidated by awards as well :(
i only got 2 math crap :(

bump.......

Seimens-Westinghouse and Intel are the two main ones.

from my experience, I went looking for proffessors in the sciences who just got a new grant or are applying for new grants. So I basically did his experiements and he added me to the paper that he published at the end of the summer.
Agaian Intel is great. Just make sure they see consistency and continual interest in one specific area.

yea, i dont have any awards!

But remember, quantity does not equal quality. Sometimes, awards are quite useless, sometimes, they're not. Ie: one school that I know of gives out awards to students in almost every freaking area, no matter how small, and all with lofty sounding names. My school? They had a "student of the month" going for about one year, and then scrapped it. :P Sometimes, it also depends on where you live. California and Massachesetts have a plethora of things to apply for, state awards, honors, etc etc. Other places? Not so much.
There's plenty of good sources online for finding competitions. Ask around friends also. Sometimes, the most successful applicants don't necessarily have that many awards at all, but they make up for it in other areas.
Buttt...if your school has a math olympiad program (relatively few schools do), then by all means, do it. Incredibly difficult, but if that's your thing, and you're good at it, worth a shot.
