ayamas, and you my friend are wonderful person for acknowledging this fact. but the University has a program and those are the rules.

So accept your scholarship and be proud of it.

My son was accepted for this coming Fall. His ACT was a 32, SAT was 2070, GPA 4.0 UF GPA 4.55. He is a white male. He didnt receive any scholarship. I have no problem with that. Like I said rules are rules.

@jared, nothing in the scholarship stated that it was solely for minorities. I had my suspicions but asked on here because I knew that someone would know.

A girl at my school got this too and she’s a black female. She got into UF for summer and I have higher stats than her but I didn’t get anything. I think it is for minorities. She got the 20k

Hi everyone,
I was awarded this scholarship too, which was a jaw-dropping moment (not only did I not think UF gave scholarship money on account of their thinking that they’re “the best school in Florida and therefore get most of the in-state top students anyway,” but also that while I am very involved and have great academic history, I have nowhere near that of friends who were also accepted but received nothing). Apparently the fact that they didn’t give any good scholarships was a criticism of UF by my school, which is one of the largest IB schools in the world, and the hundreds of students we’ve sent there over the past few years have received nothing apart from maybe a small national merit stipend or something. So when I got the email and then letter saying I had gotten $40,000, I was absolutely shocked.

The thing is, I’m NOT a minority or first generation college student. I just went back to my application and checked, and I selected “I describe myself as: White.” So anyone saying it is ONLY for URMs is wrong.

Congrats to everyone who got a scholarship this year!

I was just wondering, if everyone has heard about their scholarships, does this mean UF is finished sending them out? I am not a minority, so I wasn’t really expecting much, but then today my friend who isn’t a minority either got a $20,000 scholarship so I’m wondering if I might still have hope.
