My delegation just won Delegation of Distinction (equivalent to first-place) at the National High School Model UN competition. To me this is a pretty huge deal, and I think I should contact my schools about it, but what does everyone else think?

And if I were to contact them, is it even looked upon favorably/how do you do it?

Yes contact your schools as soon as possible!
I won a few sports awards after I sent in my application, you never know, it could be the little bit that gets you accepted (: good luck

I called all my schools, some said fax documentation over, but my awards were in trophy form and I cant really fax that over, so I emailed the admission reps and gave them contact info of my coach if they wanted to verify the awards. I recommend just calling and making sure its not "too" late and how they would like to receive the information. congrats on your win!

i would think that decisions would have, for the most part, been made by now. on top of that, most colleges say they won't consider anything that is sent to them after February. anyways, i would just inform the places where you are waitlisted, because, though it's impressive, it probably wouldn't get you reconsider at a place that had already rejected you.
