I've been looking at the common app, and I noticed the awards/honors area. I know what they're asking for, technically, but may I have some examples?

What would be some honors/awards a top-tier student would have? Maybe someone who was going to the Ivies/Tier 1?

Does this mean only academic, or can it mean other areas as well?

Many top students have EC’s that end up with competitions - so if the student had won a speech contest, or been given an academic award at their school, or through a local organization.

Yeah the awards section as always been kind of blown off my most applicants I know. This is because some extracurriculars are award-specific, whereas others are not. I know many high tier applicants who basically left the awards section blank except for maybe an AP award or something.

I join this arts and journalism competition - a major and well-known one in ASEAN, particularly in my country. But it’s simply different from, say, National Merit Scholar in US.

From that competition, my team won, and I got selected to join an exchange program, entirely free. (woohoo!) XD M exchange friends and I also appear in the national newspaper during our 3-week homestay.

But, does that even count?? Won’t the adcoms be indifferent?
